Well I think there are some decent arms in the low minors, I really don't see this group as being much different than most other years (with the exception of Ball). Th strength of the organization is definitely in aa/aaa. Guys like Caleb Clay, Brock Hunsinger, Adam Mills, Chris Province, Austin Bailey, Hunter Strickland, Mike Lee, Hunter Cervenka, Tyler Wilson, Richie Wasuelewski, Madison Younginer, Kendell Volz, Chris Hernandez, Matthew Price, Mario Alcantara, Raul Alcantara, and many others would have fit very well on this list. With that said, it is important to note that the scouting reports are much, much, much more significant at this level than stats. Ball is the head of the class in that regard. The next group is probably Johnson, Stank, and Buttrey. Kukuk, Callahan, and Mercedes are all intriguing. Litrell should move quickly, which is more valuable than most people give credit. It was a lost year for Pat Light, but he's in this mix if he can bounce back next year. I have to agree with this. Ball is a in a class by himself; typically the Sox don't get the best lefty in the draft. I think Johnson is in a slightly higher level than the rest; he's not a Chris Hernandez-type lefty. I agree with you about Light; to me, him and Stank are interchangeable, but as usual the shiny new toy is often looked at with higher regard.

Fun topic! I have never seen any of these guys pitch live, only video so I have less to go on than a lot of you. Never the less.
1. Buttrey - Thought the knuckle curve was a devastating pitch for a HS player. Wondering if K numbers are down because they have him working on other stuff now? Like when they wouldn't let Workman throw his cutter. 2. Kukuk - Prob most likely of my list to bust. Probably going to have control, much less command, issues his entire career? However if he figures it out he is a top of the rotation stuff guy. 3. Callahan - Young with good stuff. Obviously competitor and has been able to make adjustments already. 4. Ball - Prob should be #1 on list. Prob will be by this time next year, but kind of a slow start to career compared to Stewart for example. Means nothing as far as right now, but seems Ball needs to get stronger... 5. Gomez - Doesn't seem to have the stuff of the other guys but can't argue with the numbers. 6. Almonte - Done nothing to dissapoint so far.

The thing is that we have so many A-ball/GCL/DSL pitchers with potential that literally 3 out of every 4 pitchers could bust or be traded and we would still have a full rotation of them. That being said Ball is the only pitcher in this system with ace/#1 potential the rest will top out as #2/#3 guys at best(which is not a horrible position to be in, but would be better if we had more guys with ace potential, obviously).

with Ball, Stanky, Johnson, Butt it really becomes apparent how devastating the release of Titts was to this org.
Sorry.... it never gets old for me. Yes I'm juvenile

Does Sergio Gomez deserve some more hype? Credit to Speier's minor league roundup for calling to my attention but we're talking about a 19 year old at Lowell who is tied for the league lead in strikeouts. In 50 innings there, he hasn't been particularly hittable (BA against is .215), doesn't walk a lot of batters (only 14 free passes), and misses bats (9.8k/per 9), all to the tune of a 1.60 era. He has succeeded at every level so far with the exception of ~30 innings in the GCL as a 16 year old. I wonder what the stuff looks like? Is he still getting by on pretty much his fastball with good enough location or have the secondary pitches taken a step forward? Edit. Just realized Cundall provided a scouting scratch on Gomez from early July which help answer my questions. From that report it seems like the secondary pitches have made gains, and while he locates his fastball well....there isn't a lot of velocity there. Interesting. link
