Don't look at the GCL box score. Daniel Bard pitched. :/ Feel so bad for the guy.

And yet the GCL Sox still lead 3-2 in the 7th. Nick Longhi with 2-R HR.
Seriously, they need to just him down for the year. He's not going to help the big club. Give his abs a full winter to recover and let's see what happens next spring. Then, we should know if this is more ab strain or more psychological.
Does Bob Tewksbury still consult for the Sox?
ADD: just Googled it (amazing thing this Google) - apparently he does.

From the glass half full department...
I'm really psyched and glad to see Barnes at Pawtucket today.
That's a great timeframe to aaa and well deserved overall for him.
This start is kinda perfect. A meaningful game but not completely necessary.
Love to see him finish strong with a couple playoff wins as well.
I'm not quite wearing shades yet but pitching certainly looks very bright systemwide

Jose Almonte got the start for the DSL who trail the Rangers 4-1 in the bottom of the 3rd.

otherwise, the Red Sox will have to travel to Tampa. I wouldn't wish such a fate on my worst enemy.

The Yankees2 won today, so the Red Sox will be the #3 seed.

Berry added to Pawtucket, Thomas moved back to Portland. There will need to be a countermove when Barnes is added (Haeger TIA?).

Bad for most, but perfect for me.. Have looked over the GCL site and seems the date for the game is missing.. Is it tomorrow, Monday, or waiting to be announced? Am going to be there, just need to know so don't miss it if anyone knows the TBY-GCL Sox date at Tamps.

I wonder if they activated Bard to see what he does and potentially take him off the 40 man roster? I think there will be multiple departures from Sox, so they will have enough room on 40 man but it will be interesting to see how they play this out with Bard.

I still blame Bobby V for breaking bard. This will be the last season.

I'm pretty sure they're going to non-tender Bard. The 40-man spot and salary relief is probably more useful than whatever of bard's potential is left. Maybe they try to sign him to a minor league deal.

Front office's fault for letting him try it. But, Bard wanted to do it.

The front office should be at fault. They should have told him no and that he was a reliever.

Great time frame for Barnes, but I dont think he was really quite there yet. On the other hand, i thought if he flashed some good games and didnt tire out like last year it would be a successful campaign, and i think it was for him. Having a nice game tonight once he settled down, and hiss K numbers have been pretty good all year (7 in 5 IP tonight).
Gonna be some interesting rotation decisions up and down the minors. Greenville is stacked to the point I wonder if Ball might be better off in Lowell. Mercedes, Callahan, Stank have earned SP spots and should be building innings and interest from the forum here Im sure. Buttrey is old and has to move on and put up/shut up. Gomez looks like a starter for now who should be in the rotation. Itll depend on how Ball's stuff is in spring, but he does not have a lot of pitching experience, and he could roll in A- ball until someone (Gomez?) gets to Salem. Not sure if Lowell is a possibility for him though.
Also some interesting decisions in A/AA with How Diaz and Smith look as SPs, and how long Augilera/Couch/Pena stay starting. Diaz looking good tonight.

Cant see Bard sticking with Boston. I dont know the inner eorkings of that reladtionship or if Bard blames them, but if he gets back to the majors, its gotta be for another team, I would think.

I will refine this as we get to the offseason, but my initial cut at starters (age as of 3/31/14): 2014 Pawtucket - Wright (29), De La Rosa (25), Webster (24), Ranaudo (24), Barnes (23) (Britton/Hernandez in the bullpen) 2014 Portland - Couch (25), Pena (23), Augliera (23), B.Johnson (23), Owens (21) 2014 Salem - Stroup (24), Light (23), L.Diaz (21), Littrell (21), Kukuk (20) (piggyback starters) Cuevas (23), Haley (22), Maddox (22) 2014 Greenville - Mercedes (22), Buttrey (21), Gomez (20), Stankiewicz (20), Callahan (19) (piggyback starters) Smith (22), Dahlstrand (22), Alcantara (21) 2014 Lowell - Drehoff (21), Goetze (20), Ball (19), Heras (19), McGrath (19), Romero (18), Speier (18)
