Guys, Hate to break it to you but Bellinger is garbage, I got to face him this year in a game. Hes had hype around him since he was like 12. He committed to Vandy really early and he never really panned out. So they basically told him to decommit cause he wasn't going to be able to play there. He's got some serious power when he squares it up but his pitch selection is horrible. The kid can't make contact to save his life. He is all hype and has trouble hitting anyone throwing high 8's plus. Kid struck out 3 times the game we played against him. I wouldn't be suprised if he misses the draft in its entirety. I know you guys aren't going to believe this since he was an All American but trust me he isn't going to pan out. However Sean Newcomb out of U of Hartford is very intriguing to me. I've see a lot of comp's to Lester that I strongly agree with. Hey, that is a fascinating post. Thank you!

Competitive balance picks are so stupid. Yeah, the Cardinals need extra picks. They're clearly struggling to field a competitive team. Since the Pirates and the Brewers have competitive balance picks, they may be interesting assets to discuss as part of a Mike Carp potential trade package. Does anyone know if a team's draft allotment goes up if it acquires a competitive balance pick? Of course. Otherwise you'd actually be at a disadvantage because you'd have more picks and less money.

Current picks in top 105 (top three rounds):
6 - MIA 5 - ARI/STL 4 - HOU/COL/TOR/MIL/KC/CIN/TB/CLE/PIT/ATL/BOS 3 - everyone else (13 teams) 2 - NYM/TEX/MFY
(SEA/KC/TEX/CLE/BOS can all add supplemental picks for the remaining QOFAs (Morales/Santana/Cruz/Jimenez/Drew, respectively), and the team that signs them (if not their 2013 team) will lose a pick)
Note that MFY would lose pick #55, TEX would lose pick #61, SEA would lose pick #74 and NYM would lose pick #84; all other teams would lose a pick in the top 50 for signing one of the remaining QOFAs.

Morales jumps out like a sore thumb. Honestly, it wouldn't shock me if no one signs him. What in the hell was he and/or his agent thinking?

This draft seems pretty deep through the first 2 Rd's.

The Mets still need a shortstop and have the least to lose by signing Drew. The Pirates are rumored t be interested in Ike Davis. If they obtain Davis, that might open the door for Drew.

Drew would make sense for them, but all the reports have been that they're not really interested for whatever reason. It seems like they'd rather try and trade for a shortstop than give Drew a big deal.

Another way to look at it, is which player currently projected to go in the 1-12 range slips for a reason that the sox are willing to gamble on (e.g. Marrero, Bradley Jr. Ranaudo). Obviously there is no way to project this, but don't be surprised if the Sox nab a guy projected to go in the current top half of the draft, especially if they have multiple picks before Round 2.

Really would love Cederoth, seems like a future closer which would be great at the end of the first. To me, Tiquan Forbes would be interesting. Seems like Mookie to me. Forbes is 6'4". Matt Garrioch compared him physically to Randy Moss (!) of all people. I'm wondering where the Mookie comparison is coming from.

Morales jumps out like a sore thumb. Honestly, it wouldn't shock me if no one signs him. What in the hell was he and/or his agent thinking? Boras is not infallible. He was on a podcast during the winter (or GM?) meetings where he talked about Morales (among others) and his power output/600 PAs. Something silly like that.

Well Texas just signed Choo, that means they lose there first rounder draft pick. Red Sox select 28th, and 32nd. And if they don't sign Stephen Drew they can get another pick in the 30tes. I like that (ss) Ti'Quan Forbes 6.4'' 175.lbs with great glove and quick hands.

Hey andrewdon,
You must really be a negative, jealous person. First of all the Bellinger kid did not strike out against any team you played on. If you are a ISL player as you claim, this kid demolished all of the competition he faced. Most of the pitchers would not throw him any fastballs, just garbage just like your post. This kid has hit over 400 and has hit home runs over 400' all over this country since he was a freshman. Why don't you try and support your fellow ISL player instead of posting a bunch of lies to make you feel better. No one believes your B.S. posts. This kid will be the first 4 time position player ever voted on by the ISL coaches, which includes your coach!!!!!! The MLB people who do the drafting know his worth, you should check out the last 5 drafts and you will see people like you are always wrong about your posts. Maybe you might want to contact Bellinger and let him know who you are so when you guys play each other he can school you again...

First off I didn't play him in the ISL, I played him this fall where he played for NE Baseball. He struck out three times that game. Im not knocking his power cause his fourth at bat he hit a missle into the gap. The kid definatley has power but 1-4 with 3 k's in high school fall ball is not draft worthy. Everyone has a bad day but he sure did not impress me for someone with the amount of hype he had around him. If he can figure out his approach and pitch recognition he will be a special player but with the amount of swings and misses I saw that day I'm just not seeing a draftable player for 2014.

again you do not know what your talking about. You are calling this kid garbage because of some fall game!! you are a piece of work. MLB will not be calling you for your impression on this kid or anyone else. This player has one of the best pitch recognition eyes in the country, I guess you would have seen that and his approach if you attended the WWBA in October this year, but you did not. In speaking to his coaches from NEBaseball, Evosheild Canes, and his high school coach they are all in agreement about this kids future= MLB. Just spoke to the NE baseball fall coach and he confirmed Bellinger never K'd 3 times ever playing for him. In fact the coach told me that most HS and all of the college teams that he played would not pitch to him, as was the case all summer!!!!
YOU SHOULD GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU CALL A PLAYER " GARBAGE"

Anyway as of right now the kid has a few projections out there to choose from if you search hard enough. All the ones I saw from late this fall say 2nd to 5th round talent so from there it would seem that the spring evaluations will tell his direction.

Trashing a kid based off of one game is childish, but that should be expected since he's a kid and so is anyone he's playing against. As you get older and mature, you will realize this. You'll also learn how to phrase things so you don't come off as petty and jealous.
First hand reports are great and people love to hear them, just try to learn to keep them objective and fair.

I think he needs work in his approach and selection. If he can get that to improve then I think he will be great.

Like I said I'm basing my opinion off a 3 strikeout performance. I saw what I saw and I'm just providing you guys with the information so you can make an informed decision. However you sound like you have seen him play multiple times so your opinion is probably more well backed.

Not picking sides, but I thought this link to Scout.com posts about Vandys 2014 recruiting class may be informative as many of their recruits are drafted. Interesting that Jordan Sheffields younger brother is one of their top recruits. Also, it does sound like Bellinger has some work to do on his swing from these posts. mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=189&f=2202&t=11688674

I have heard mixed things on Bellinger. I like him tho. His power is real and he needs to work on his swing seem to be the consensus. I wouldnt be surprised if he needs alot of work on his pitch rec. because most HS kids do.

Just spent 3 hours scouting the Bellinger player hitting with the St. Louis Cardinal single a coach. They have fixed some minor things he was doing during the summer. He is now using a 34/31 wood bat instead of the 34/32 he switched to, after the national showcase for Perfect Game in the Metrodome in June . He hit 5 balls in the upper, upper, deck, over 500'. The coach agreed on the changes and going back to the lighter bat, has increased his bat speed by 6-7 mph. There is a you tube video of him hitting a 91 mph pitch over 475' in a high school game last April. Most mlb development coaches we have talked with love this kids swing and projection. He will have a big spring and great pro workouts. The previous story lines regarding. Vanderbilt are not true, spoke with Family and they felt it was important to get best education, with Duke paying 100%. Not bad.

Anyone else you are scouting.? It is always helpful to have first hand objective reports on prospects.
