Heyman has a long long history of trade speculation, usually 'unnamed sources' quotes which favor Boras clients. His source is likely Boras fueling the fire. There is also no reason for the Red Sox to deny anything here. I am sure they would be happy for Drew if he got a nice contract. There is no reason to disrupt anything Boras is attempting to do for his client.

@jmastrodonato: Cherington said he had "another good conversation" with Scott Boras about Stephen Drew, but also emphasized the priority to add a draft pick
I think they could get a pick from a team with competitive balance picks. Carp to Pitt for Josh Bell and a pick.... #speculation
That last part is mine... Just in case.

RT @dplennon: A person involved with the Stephen Drew discussions thinks he's going back to #RedSox on two-year deal. Just their sense.

I don't think he'd resign if he isn't assured to be the starter. No sitting vs LHP and letting WMBs play 3B.

Even if Drew gave the Sox a discount. The Sox would have to make a corresponding move I think Alex Spier said they have only 1.5million left before the 189million mark.
Please let there be someone to sign this guy.

Please let there be someone to sign this guy. They're ~$1.5M away from the $179-180M mark because Speier has them leaving $9-10M open for midseason trades and injury replacements; they also have 5 spots for 7 pitchers with two back end pitchers making $13-16.5M, and the pitching market looks like a seller's market.

I'd let another team get that bargain deal and collect a pick.

Boy, from what I remember from those WS gameday threads I think some people around here would die if that happened.

It's almost like we have one too many starting pitchers. I wish we had a young really good defensive shortstop that was good enough offensively to fill in at 3rd or short if either Boegarts or Middlebrooks didn't perform too well. Oh well, might as well spend 20 mil for 2 years of Drew. Hmmm, Think Detroit would trade Iglesias for Peavy??

I thought you wanted someone good enough offensively....
Oh yea and the team won the WS this past year, I doubt they regret the Peavy trade.

Because Drew/Bogaerts at SS/3B is obviously the worst thing that could happen to this team. Not like they just won a World Series with that combo or anything.

Right because the team should decide its' future over the next several years based upon player/team performance over a handful of games. Come on now if a player were evaluated over any other small sample size of games you'd scream.

Whenever I hear Boras talk about offers his clients have, I think about the story William Safire told about his early years working for Nixon. Part of his job was periodically to appear in the doorway of the Oval Office and say "Mr President, I think you should take the easy way here," so that Nixon could say "Some of my advisors are telling me I should take the easy way here, but I…."

Interesting tweet from Gammons today:
Peter Gammons @pgammo GM:"Just cannot see Kendry Morales signing until after the draft"
It's not crazy to think Drew might wait until after the draft to sign as well. We all think he will get a deal before then but it's not crazy to wait if it's about the money.
McAdam's tweet today:
Sean McAdam @sean_McAdam Cherington met with Scott Boras today on Drew, says Red Sox "have a better understanding of what's important to him." #RedSoxTalk

If a player were to do that his value would plummett. Given that the player hadn't had a normal spring training he's basically missing half the season. Further teams payrolls will mostly be set by then and those that do have room will also have the trade market to look at. Short answer, it isn't going to happen.

He can't play the field at all so there's really on 15 places he could go and that's before you eliminate teams like the Red Sox that clearly aren't adding another DH. If Drew's market comes down enough, I think he signs with the Mets.

Seems like Boras always has a contingency plan in his back pocket, usually involving a team out of left field. I'm really hoping Ben sticks to whatever his opening offer to Drew was and let Boras make the next move.
I veteran backup shortstop on a one year deal would complete the left side of the infield.

We've been over this before. Besides if it's about money, waiting until after the draft gets him a pro-rated deal anyway. Doubt that helps him.

To me if they bring back Drew then there all set with WMB. He has nothing to prove at AAA. He may have some holes right now but I think this is a perfect opportunity to see what you have with these young kids. Xander at SS and WMB at 3b.
This is my opinion I want the Sox to move on . They have a lot invested in the SS position throughout the minors also.
