Are 2B really that hard to find that Olivera is actually rumored to get $70+ million as an average 2B who is 29 and might need TJS? I don't get it. I wouldn't pay half that. These rumors must just be floated by agents. The 70 million number was eventually realized to be a bit high. Going to be more like 50 million apparently. Also, teams obviously going to do physicals before signing him (Braves and Padres already have), so I wouldn't worry about the TJ thing.

Ben Badler with a great review of the six and seven figure signings for the Red Sox. www.baseballamerica.com/international/2014-international-reviews-boston-red-sox/The piece is subscriber only but here are some highlights on guys besides Anderson Espinoza and Acosta: -Junior Espinoza (400k bonus) is a tall lanky projectable pitcher who already throws low 90s and could end up with more velo. Not a very polished pitcher at the moment, but has some feel for his changeup. -Elwin Tejeda is super skiny despite being 6-2. Could project to have power, but already is considered an advanced hitter. Led the Red Sox Tricky League in hitting. Going to move to 3B. -Roniel Raudes and Jhosmar Cortez are two Nicaraguan pitchers who currently sit in the mid-80s but have the ability to throw strikes. -Marino Campana (100k) is a tall (6-4) OFer with big time raw power but hasn't translated much into games. -Hemerson Serven (100k) is known as "Panda Jr." Switch hitter who is a slighty advanced hitter -Willis Figueroa (150k) is a SS who will most likely be converted to CF because of what Badler considers 70 grade speed. He is fairly strong for being 5-11, but still sounds like he has a ways to go with the hitting. Considered a "spark plug" type. ADD: BA also just released the 2015-2016 international bonus pools. Next year's Red Sox pool is $3,681,000. Either sign all the 300k players or trade away the space. Also, it's still mind boggling that Arizona decided to lose out on that top bonus pool just to sign Yoan Lopez. www.baseballamerica.com/international/2015-international-bonus-pools-slots/

Per Kiley McDaniel, Lucius Fox was declared an international free agent. Details on him here: www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-international-signing-market-part-1/McDaniel says he's likely to wait until July 2 to sign, but you have to think there's a chance that a team like the Red Sox that blew over its pool this signing period and is ineligible to spend $300k+ after July 2 might make him an offer appealing enough that he signs before next year's period starts.

I thought the lesson we learned from the two Cuban kids who were denied was that a player must register with the commish's office prior to a certain date in order to be signed in a given international signing period. Would Fox be able eligible to sign now?

Is there anyone we are still tracking with the potential to be in the 2014-15 bonus pool that the Sox might sign?

50 power, 70 speed is intriguing if the hit tool is any good.

Soooooooo do the new Twitter links not show up for anyone else? (EDIT: And then after I posted, they showed up. Weird...)
Back on topic, since I know what Jmei and chavo are posting about since it's what I came here to post about, Sox may as well go all-in trying to get him. One of few teams in a great position to just go all out before J2. Concerns about next signing period are probably even more prevalent for the teams that haven't gone over their cap already than they were around the Moncada signing.
Of course, the NYY lurk and would probably LOVE to bounce back after missing out on Moncada.

OK, for the benefit of those with flash photography:
Kiley McDaniel ?@kileymcd 4h4 hours ago 20-year-old Cuban CF Eddy Martinez is eligible to sign now, but his market/timing is unclear. Int'l scouting dir called him "impact talent."
Kiley McDaniel ?@kileymcd Martinez has 70 speed, 50 raw power & can sign before or after July 2nd. Expected to get 8 figure bonus, would obv send team over bonus pool

So we could still sign intl players this signing period? I thought after Moncada that we couldn't sign anyone else? I'm very confused...please explain?
And if we can sign intl players....are there any intriguing intl pitchers we have been or will look at?

And if we can sign intl players....are there any intriguing intl pitchers we have been or will look at? The Red Sox aren't restricted in signing anyone until July 2nd. Most eligible players have already been signed, but there are always a few from Cuba that popup like this guy.

I'm as mystified as any when trying to evaluate any stats from the DSL but I wanted to point out a trio of late 2014 international signees. All three of Stanley Espinal (18), Lorenzo Cedrolla (17) and Ramfis Berroa (19) signed in February of 2015. These three currently lead all Red Sox DSL hitters in OPS.
Ramfis Berroa .853 OPS in 154 PA Lorenzo Cedrola .833 OPS in 261 PA Stanley Espinal .786 OPS in 276 PA
A couple points of reference. This is of course a small sample size. Also I'm not familiar with the details but I would imagine Berroa who will be 20 in November and Espinal who will be 19 in November are on the old side for the DSL.
For what it's worth with at least 150 PA minimum they would rank 2nd, 4th and 12th in OPS in the Sox system. 1st is JBJ, 3rd in Guerra and 5th is Moncada.
This is all likely not representative of any future performance projections but I found it interesting and inspired me to follow these non July 2 signings a bit closer.
