Kiley McDaniel ?@kileymcd Multiple sources confirm that 21-year-old Cuban 2B Andy Ibanez is now in the Dominican Republic. He's subject to international bonus pools.
Don't think the Red Sox will be interested, although he is one of the top talents from Cuba.

We can always drive up the price for the Yankees. Or we could do a sign and trade. I doubt we are interested in the lack of tools second baseman as well.

With Chichero Kaneko now looking like a strong possibility to be posted, found a couple of scouting links regarding him: KanekoChichero

What the hey is happening with Tomas? This one is taking forever. Sounds like the counterpart to the Sandoval game. Both are pumping press reports that the signing is "imminent"..... followed by no action. I always assume this is agents planting stories to create a last minute frenzy. For Tomas, the reports of him coming to the US to sign last weekend is followed by nothing, then another workout for the Royals. In Sandoval's case, Crasnick and San Fran's O'Donnell breathelessly report Sox super interested, SF dropping out, deal imminent -- presumably done to stir SF uproar and pressure on Giants to top the offers. From Boston, Sean McAdams shoots it down. My guess is he is closer to the truth.

Someone called called in to Felger and Mazz to ask about Yoan Moncada and they had absolutely no idea who he is lol. Not that I was surprised, I was actually surprised some called to ask them about him.

I'd be stunned if Moncada ended up anywhere outside of BOS/NY.
My guess is the Thomas news will drop shortly after Sandoval, assuming everything is 100% ready to go on the "legal" side of things

It behooves Tomas to wait until Sandoval signs as San Fran is a top option if they miss out on Pablo and Boston has shown limited interest.
Question is if Boston lands Sandoval does it diminish the probability of signing Moncada? The depth is not a concern as who knows where Pedroia is productivity wise after two more seasons and either Pedroia or Sandoval may spend more time at DH but does it make Boston less desirable to Moncada?

They're clueless about everything in general...though I always had a thing for Felgy's wife.

Moncada is 19 and will need at least one full minor league season if everything goes swiftly. So he is not in the big league picture for one and a half big league season and thats the low end the projection.
I don't think he affects the Red Sox planning for this off season, after all they want to be good next season.
From his perspective I think he'll be look for the best deal and that generally is whomever pays the most.

Funny last week on Sports Tonight, Lou Merloni was talking about how good Kenta Maeda looked shutting down MLB All-Stars team with his fastball sitting at 95 mph. Felger and Beetle jumped on Lou telling him they don't put much stock in that, with the scrubs on MLB team. Lou said Cano and Longoria are scrubs.

Alex Speier ?@alexspeier Eddie Romero, Sox intl scouting director, attended workout for Moncada in Guatemala. 'He's in tremendous shape...We'll do our due diligence'
Brian MacPherson ?@brianmacp Red Sox int'l scouting director Eddie Romero has seen Yoan Moncada, declined to say much other than that team can be "aggressive" with $.
EDIT: Mods might want to move this over to the Moncada thread.

The Yankees signed Bryan Emery, OF, Colombia....the last remaining player from the BA Top 30 international prospects (not including Cuban players of course)

Certainly raised Maeda's stock (as well as some other Japanese players that could be posted someday). The frustrating thing about the Samurai Japan vs MLB All Star series though was the MLBN commentary not giving them credibility until like the last 2 games... Regardless, I'm sure several players in that series opened some eyes. I wont speculate much but one has to wonder what will come of some of the players rumored to be posted from NPB after that performance. After the news today though and the other potential signings the Sox might get, Maeda might not even be on the radar anymore, but we'll see how it plays out.

I'd love to get Maeda. Worst case, he's a serviceable back-end starter. His upside in the MLB as a front-end starter is just too good to not take a gamble on. Going after him could mean that we get a young ace on a decent contract if all goes well.

keithlaw ?@keithlaw 19m19 minutes ago We'll take all your players and all your rum RT @ap: US to start talks with Cuba to normalize full diplomatic relations, open embassy.
This could have a significant affect on baseball.
ADD:
Ben Badler ?@benbadler 2m2 minutes ago Cuba's already leasing players to Japan, tried with Mexico. Small change compared to what they would making selling stars to MLB teams.
Ben Badler ?@benbadler 6m6 minutes ago What could eventually happen: Cuba resembles the Mexican League. Government sells players to MLB teams, takes big cut. They will make bank.

So what would prevent other nations from doing the same? Why wouldn't DR make baseball their chief export? Why wouldn't Venezuela follow suit? One is an exception, two becomes the rule. This has the potential to be a significant shake-up of the status quo.
