Some of the Ground Rules are applied loosely in here, as we understand that there is a tendency to want to react (or overreact) to every play of a Sox game with one line reactionary posts. Those posts are okay in the Red Sox Series threads to a point - we certainly appreciate the passion. Just try not to overdo it, and try to maintain some semblance of reason. Interesting note from Alex Speier: Defense-- it matters.

Interesting note from Alex Speier: Defense-- it matters. I would say Sox are in the better half of teams defensively, who played very bad defense this weekend. Outfield can be shaky depending on who is playing, but an OF with Bradley and Victorino playing Cf and RF will be good, even if Carp or Gomes is in left. redsox: 4/7 vs. TEX: Nava LF, Pedroia 2B, Ortiz DH, Napoli 1B, Sizemore CF, Bogaerts SS, Pierzynski C, Herrera 3B, Bradley Jr. RF, Lackey RHP. I am a nitpicker, but Bogaerts and Sizemore should be swapped in the lineup.

I can already feel it. Men at the corners 1 out AJP double play.

(If you did mean Bogaerts, well I am not as big on L/R alternation as Farrell is but that would just be too unbalanced.)

Glad to see the Sox miss Darvish this series. His last game made him the fastest to 500 k's in MLB history. Take and rake just gets you more k's with him.
Some positive thoughts from the loses this weekend. Lester looks like he's picking right up from his playoff run. Good stuff no support yet.
Nava and Bradley both hit some balls hard yesterday.

ADD: thank god for the improved D (JBJ in RF). They needed to make a statement about the defense, and they have. Bad D won't be tolerated.

Right, one more error and that Bogaerts punk is gonna get benched!I know you were jesting, but my comment WAS wrong. The message was (or should be) "defense is important to us, and is a big part of the game." It's not just that the Sox have been making mistakes in the field, but also that the management wasn't putting a premium on defense, wasn't leading by example. JBJ in RF is them doing a better job on that, at least for one night. Ditto the signing of a real 3B

Ditto the signing of a real 3B Advanced fielding stats have Herrera and Roberts about even at 3B and Herrera did pass my personal eye test so far, so what's a "real 3B"? Someone who can hit well against LHP?

How about we go for an elite defensive outfield of jackie, sizemore and victorino? They're no slouches at the plate either. We don't need all three of Nava, Carp and Gomes.

Someone who can hit well against LHP? Herrera failed my eye test, in terms of he didn't have enough experience there to charge that bunt the other night. This is bad stuff for a contending club. I'm reading less endearing reports on Roberts than I initially assumed, so maybe I'm wrong that he's an improvement, but Herrera isn't ready to play that position, even though he probably has the tools. I'm actually a little surprised that they didn't slide Xander there with Herrera at SS.

I'm actually a little surprised that they didn't slide Xander there with Herrera at SS. My feeling on Xander is they want to give him one year of playing shortstop exclusively in the majors so that they can properly evaluate whether he belongs there long term or whether it would be better to move him to 3B after all.

Good luck ever having both of those guys healthy at the same time. As far as Nava/Carp/Gomes go, I love the platoon and pinch hitting opportunities that group provides. Of course, I'd love it even more if Farrell would actually take full advantage of those opportunities, but what are you gonna do?

Rain moving in by 8 or 9 and not moving out till midday Tuesday. Not likely to get nine in tonight. Will either manager change their game management? My guess is no, but they should.

I agree with you. Farrell may be my new scapegoat now that Stephen is gone. JK but seriously i'd love to see Farrell pinch hit more.

Speaking of Bradley, not much to go by so far, but doesn't it seems like he has been holding his own with the bat.
