... Not to be Debbie Downer here, but he was hitting .150 with a sub-.600 OPS entering the game. He's only had 24 at-bats in what's basically an exhibition league with terrible pitching. Seriously, ignore any and all stats from the AFL. Agreed. I still think he's the catcher of the future, dry air or not. The arm is for real.

Not good results for our prospects in the AFL Rising Stars Game.
Almanzar 0 for 2 with 2Ks; Bryce Brentz 0 for 3 with 2Ks. None of our pitchers was selected for the game.

Bryce Brentz with a nice bounce back after the AFL Future Stars game. He was 2 for 4 yesterday including his second HR. Now hitting .320.
On a down note, Pete Ruiz took the loss to Phoenix surrendering five runs on four hits in 1/3 inning. ERA now at 8.10.

Great to see him doing well in Arizona. Hope he "rakes" in AAA, and he comes up for good in August.

It's good to see him doing well, but he's the sort of hitter who SHOULD be rocking the AFL. More important is whether or not he's improving his patience and pitch selection.

It is the adjustments he makes in Pawtucket that will probably determine the timetable for Brentz, the AFL aside. Nice to see him get a few more at bats, but he needs to show what he can do against pitching that has some resemblance to what he'll see in the majors.
