Nick Faleris of BP raved about the Red Sox draft class on the Effectively Wild podcast today. Said that he had Chavis and Kopech as combined being "worth" $5.2m in slot dollars but that the Red Sox drafted them with picks worth $4m in slot value.

Once signed I expect that Travis will be assigned to Lowell, with Chavis and Kopech assigned initially to the GCL. I hope once he gets acclimated to pro ball to see Chavis play in Lowell by late this Summer.

Really liking our draft so far. Love the risk being taken, building up our lower levels (again). Can't wait to see how much money we're able to save today.
Chavis really has special bat speed, he is exciting.

To me this sums up everything I could have hoped for, he gets it. I instantly gushed over the bat speed on several Youtube videos I found. Seems like a confident, but not cocky player.

Tim Britton ?@timbritton 2 min. Sawdaye said Chavis will probably begin play as a SS, with 2B and 3B both as viable options.

Sawdaye on Chavis: "If he doesn't play SS in the major leagues, we feel very strongly he's going to stay on the dirt."

I love the first day the Blue Jays had BTW. Well anytime you have #9 and #11, you can tend to go about things the way you want. They tend to draft well, albeit if they can sign the talent (see Bickford etcetera). I thought Foley falling to them sucked. Even with his repeat ability and mechanics, if they can get all three signed, one heck of a way to start out.

Where do Chavis, Kopech, and Travis fit into the current prospect rankings? Mike Andrews writes: Translated to the SoxProspects scale, that's a 6 projection with a 7 ceiling, which would mean he would slot in at #8 behind Cecchini and ahead of Vazquez. That's a 4 projection with a 6 ceiling, which would likely place him at #15 (or #17 after Chavis and Kopech are slotted in) behind Devers but ahead of Britton. It's possible, of course, that Andrews was being a bit enthusiastic in his quick reaction and expectations will come down a bit in the next few days. This is right in line with my gut feel on where they would be ranked, so I'd say it will likely be pretty close.

not only did one of the best scouts I know liken Michael Chavis to David Wright, but when I met Chavis I thought he was Wright's lil brother

Man, I kind of liked Chavis going into the draft......now that I've done even more homework I really like the guy and firmly believe that he has some top tools that are slightly undervalued due to his body type. When he stood up after his name was announced yesterday, I thought to myself "this is the guy?!" He has some special tools though packaged into a completely everyday body type.

Kiley McDaniel sbb.scout.com/2/1409043.html 26. Red Sox - Michael Chavis Chavis was in play for a number of the picks ahead of this one, so it's a nice value for the Red Sox to get the prep player with some of the best power and makeup in the draft. Chavis is deceptively quick and can stick in the infield with quick feet and a plus arm, with some scouts suggesting catcher; that could be an instructional league experiment. Here is his free scouting report and video. Draft Pick Allotment: $1.87 million Projected Bonus: $1.60 million

Law wrote that Travis could also play some LF. I think it would be good to have some positional flexibility as players advance through the system. I hope they can get Travis signed soon as Lowell's season starts this upcoming week.
