Josh Ockimey, not ranked on BA Top 500, but Sickels had him in his Top 300.

His team beat a team from my area yesterday in the Pa. state playoffs. I didn't watch the game. But, our local paper had a blurb about him. Bloomsburg, Pa. has a kid going to Stanford Colton Hock - RHP. He struck Ockimay out 3x. The Neuman-Goretti manager mentioned that he was impressed with how Hock pitched against Josh. Article mentioned he was hitting .515 coming into the game.

Well they took a guy named Mookie in the 5th round who seemed to be a scout pick once upon a time....

Sounds like their is raw athletic ability and strength, but if you watch video you will see that the above assessment is probably even a bit of an understatement. Sox development guys are going to have to totally revamp that swing. Edit: So, his swing in the Perfect Game video, is much better than the game action swing that was posted on the MLB draft tracker, that is a positive.

So Ockimey was essentially supposed to replace Travis @ IU, kind of ironic.

Are they taking a break from the draft now? I thought they were going thru round 10 today. (Or maybe MLB Draft Tracker is not advancing to rd 6.)

Starting back up now. There is a break between rounds 5 and 6.

Haven't been this excited about a pair of first base draftees since Lars & LaPorta!

Cubs take Dylan Cease. As you can see they are spending their savings.

Well they took a guy named Mookie in the 5th round who seemed to be a scout pick once upon a time.... Ockimey seems to be the Kendrick Perkins Memorial pick - a really raw athlete that they may be able to "coach up" into a true prospect with very high upside if they are successful, but also extremely high bust potential.

Just a reminder that they are all lottery picks, esp the prep draftees. I like the approach to add power arms and bats to the system. Balanced approach for this draft class to restock the system.

I was thinking more along the lines of Schwindenhammer.

Cubs take Dylan Cease. As you can see they are spending their savings. I wonder if Theo is ahead of the curve. With the draft following chalk much closer than in the past, it appears there may be fewer high profile signability guys around for the 11th round and later. He probably figures that he'll have to gamble losing the 5th - 10th round slot money (which is a relatively small piece of the Cubs' overall pie thanks to their typical high draft position) to get some now.

Except this kid has a legit tool you can already point to. I assume you mean hitting for power. I think it will be hard to extract that against more advanced pitching without a significant rework of his swing. That's why I put him in the Perkins mold. Of course that's all based on a 30 second video clip so it could be completely wrong.
