Don't know what the Sox do with all the catchers. Looking at 4 to 6 new catchers in the system.
As for day 3 overall, really like what they did. Whitson and Shepherd were great early picks. Shepherd could move quickly and if Whitson can get back to his old form he could be a huge steal. I also like the picks of Tyler Hill, Ryan Harris, and Luis Alvarado. As for the signability guys, if they can sign at least two of Kemp, Kendall, Peterson, Fisher, or Matijevic, it'll be a really good draft. I think Peterson/Matijevic get signed, but that's just my speculation/hopes.

Moore, Procyshen, Mckeon, and Winterburn are all fairly likely to sign, so even if we don't draft the other two four catchers provides a bit of an excess amount.

Can't wait to see how many of those first 10 guys on that list they end up signing.

Kendall is very intriguing with his speed and commit to Vandy. His speed and arm appear to be legit.,,I also like the fact that he is from a cold weather state, plays hockey and has the nickname honey badger. While he likely will be a tough sign nothing ventured nothing gained.
Peterson also appears to have the projection and physical skills which could translate very well in pro ball. Another likely tough sign he dropped big time due to a broken fibula which he appears to recovered from.

I'm curious. If a team goes over allocation and loses a pick in the subsequent year, would it be a second rounder if the team were to finish in the protected pick envelope ? If so, it might be a decent strategy for a team drafting in the the Sox position, World Series to flop.

In general, teams draft about 40 players but only make offers to about 15 plus or minus. It's just how it is.

On the other hand. Jeren Kendall has already reaffirmed his committment to Vanderbilt.
Scott Emerich @scottemerich19 Holmen's Jeren Kendall (drafted in 30th rd by Red Sox) told me that he will stick with his college plans and play at #vanderbiltbaseball
Kyle Deckelbaum @news8kyle Just spoke to Jeren Kendall's dad, Jeremey. He says Jeren will definitely attend @vandybaseball in the fall

You figure he's a $100k signing or the Sox agreed in principle on a number a little over?

The kid is going to have TJ surgery he might just figure he's better off to get it done by the team and start the professional recovery. Similar to Gabe Speier last year. Amiel Sawdaye hinted at something like this in his podcast last week.

Seems very open to signing Fisher seems to have some nice tools with his defense and some power potential but not sure how much of the bonus pool I'd want to see him take up until a few others are confirmed to not sign. I'm personally fine just closing the door on Peterson and Kendall given the perceived dollars and strong college commitments and I would have put Fisher in that category before this post...still rather see them get Kemp, Matijevic and Hill locked up with many others requiring some change on top of the $100k slot.

Because if they were to take that strategy why wouldn't they take more signability guys past round ten if they're only going to give out so many offers anyway? Plus, they've signed an average of around 27 players in the last 3 years, so they're obviously making offers to more than 15..
