Number 1 on ESPN.com's Top 10 catcher prospects list (Insider). Standard write-up (" he may not be a superstar"), with an expected every day arrival in 2015. Grading was interesting: Alfaro, Sanchez, Susac, Pentecost round out the top 5. ... but then again he may be. Players who become this good this fast at this many facets of the game sometimes just stay on that trajectory. Watch him move and he looks superbly athletic. Could happen. That would be huge for us if he did. Portland had three hits the other night and swihart had two of them. How huge is that.

It seems that he is taking the ball to left field with power a lot when hitting left handed even. This guy is clearly capable of playing wall ball. I get the Vasquez love but there really is no contest between them. He's the total package and his athleticism indicates a very high ceiling to me as a catcher. He is what most teams should do. Put an athlete behind the plate. And if you look closely it doesn't seem to me that he will have a lot of problems being the number 1 catcher behind the plate. Here we are deep in the season, and he's only getting better and this is nothing new with him. The guy seems to be continually trending up.
If not for Mookie, he'd be my player of the year. Even over Owens, Ranaudo...etc. Devers is clearly from another planet, but about all we really know about Devers is he can hit a fastball extremely well. Devers has TONS of development still to do. I'd take Swihart in a heartbeat over any other player not named Mookie in the system.

Great news, Congrats to Blake. Is their anyway Blake can be a first baseman and become Napoli's replacement?

Great news ... I have a pretty firm opinion that Blake Swihart is going to be a foundation player for the Sox for a long time.

Is their anyway Blake can be a first baseman and become Napoli's replacement? You mean when he's 32, right?

Great news, Congrats to Blake. Is their anyway Blake can be a first baseman and become Napoli's replacement? That would be a waster of his talent.

I am curious because we have a great problem to have, two great catchers. So i am curious to see what we do.

Congrats to my favorite prospect. I had him in the bigs mid 2015. That may be way off. Be glad to see him sooner.

I am curious because we have a great problem to have, two great catchers. So i am curious to see what we do. We go without a dedicated DH and there are plenty of games for both Swihart and Vazquez.

Great news, Congrats to Blake. Is their anyway Blake can be a first baseman and become Napoli's replacement? Right after Marrero moves to LF.

I am curious because we have a great problem to have, two great catchers. So i am curious to see what we do. Its a good problem to have. No reason why Swihart and Vazquez can't play together. Except for the rule of having just one catcher at a time! Seriously though, I don't see why they can't be on the same roster, at least to start their careers. Neither has proven anything yet, and catchers get a lot of off-days. The FO would have more value to trade if/when both prove to be stars, than right now, and if both don't become every-day type players, then it's no problem at all. I guess my point is that while we have two good to great catching prospects, that's a ways off from having two good to great catchers. And further still from having one who can hit well enough to play more than a handful of games a year at 1B or DH.

Does he get the start tonight? With Owens on the hill?

I am glad for swihart. He is a dan butler injury away from boston now. I don't think he's a Dan Butler injury from Boston. Catchers tend to move slowly. They'll pick up a veteran to play out the string if Butler gets hurt.

They'll find something other than Swihart if Butler/Vazquez go down. Swihart won't touch Boston this season

I am glad for swihart. He is a dan butler injury away from boston now. They would call up Matt Spring before Swihart if there was an injury.
