See, to me this is more frustrating than losing a well played game. This was a winnable game that, because of our pitcher shouldve been managed like a playoff game. That would've meant Drew 9th, reliever warm to start the 6th in a 1 run game in case there was a hiccup, and Drew not playing or batting 9th. Not saying the above would've guaranteed a win, but i would've maximized the probability of win potential. Instead it was hunches, gut feelings, letting the game play you and watching opportunities slip though this team's fingers inning after inning. Manager provided a distinct handicap. Would they have won without these moves (or nonmoves) - unknown. They did have a winnable game quickly spiral out of reach with them, though. That might have been the best first 5 innings Peavy threw all year. Then, he gave it up. But, you just knew he was going to before that inning. How many hits would Xander have had if he batted 8th? First, the front office screwing with him. Causing him to slump. Now, Farrell drops him to 8th and causes him to slump further. Is it ever the player's fault?

Poor Peavy.
Offense can buy him a run. Like, ever.

Poor Peavy. Offense can buy him a run. Like, ever. Who cares? He made a stupid mental error on the 1st run and gave up 2 home runs on 90 mph fastballs thrown right down the middle. And the double in between the homers was another meatball. Bye. His record is 1-9 and that's about what it should be.

Looked at the stats after 100 games. Papi has 69 rbi. Next highest is Pedey with 37.

Farrell will probably give the excuse that he's managing for 162 games here. He's forgetting that he's only managing for 63 now. At this point you're basically managing for one game or conceding the season. If the Red Sox make the playoffs, it's more likely to be because they won the division than because they got the second wild card.

I don't think there is much chance of catching the Orioles, especially if Davis starts hitting.

This 2nd Wild-Card is a joke. LA will prob win over 95 games. And, have a better record than the East and Central winners. Their reward. A one-game playoff with a team that goes 84-78. Just BS.

It is. I'm a purist and would rather get rid of divisions and go back to the World Series being played by the two teams with the best record in each league. But we know, they have to do anything to keep short attention span fair weather fans interested in their teams for more of the season.

No more silly talk about bat speed or moving him down in the lineup, please. He's not quite ready to go there.

No one saw this streak from Papi coming. I wish there was some way to relate how he is playing to a combination of a temperature, place, and time of the year.

I'd like to see pitch framing stats with knuckle ball pitchers.

Ok someone explain that shift to me with a man on third. He's halfway home before a pitch is thrown.

A little surprised Buchholz didn't shatter into a million pieces there. Hope he's ok.

Buch looks horrible today. It'll be a short night for him if he doesn't start locating his pitches.
