Ball brought his ERA down to under 6. Hopefully he ends the season on a roll and can bring it down to under 5.

Cody Kukuk with another dominate outing so far: 5IP, 2H 0ER 1BB 7K. He has struck-out Rangers' top prospects Jorge Alfaro and Nick Williams twice a piece. Edit: make that 6IP 2H 0ER 1BB 10K for Kukuk Last three outings: 16IP 10H 1ER 4BB 22K. Solid. This kid has got amazing stuff. If he master the command part of pitching, he could be a #3 starter.

Johnson. 70 to 75 with the soft stuff ... batters completely baffled. up to 90 mph on the fastball. Was like watching minor leaguers against a crafty veteran MLB pitcher. Is he really that good ?

Ho-hum...another day another HR for Wendell Rijo. Not bad against Yacksel Rios, the opposing starter, who had a 4.00 GO/AO ratio for the game (1.26 for the season).
1/2 with a HR and 2 BB for the game. Very impressive for a young 18 year old in the SAL. Now up to .290/.366/.629 (.995 OPS) for the month of July.
I can see him moving through the system quickly.

When he was drafted the profile was of that of an advanced college pitcher, someone who would move through the system quickly. He was sidetracked by injury but he's making up for that this year. If by that good, you mean against AA competition then yes. I don't think it will be quite as easy at the ML level, but he might fill out the lower end of a rotation nicely. As for soft-tossing, he can get it to 92-94 when he has to. Doesn't look like he had to do that today, though. I've only seen video, but it's easy to get that impression because the delivery is very fluid. Looks like he has a future with somebody's big club.

When will Johnson be promoted? he's a stud. Probably will start in Pawtucket next year i assume.... First they need to trade someone to make room for Owens, then they need to trade someone to make room for Johnson.

Last 5 starts for Ball: 25 IP, 18 H, 15 R, 9 ER, 7 BB, 19 K, 3.24 ERA
Is Greenville's defense that bad?

Ball brought his ERA down to under 6. Hopefully he ends the season on a roll and can't bring it down to under 5. This is awesome, but seriously if he does can we call his first full season a failure? Dude jumps straight from HS to GCL and sucks there and start as a 19 year old at Single A and get rocked only to become a decent pitcher by years end. I mean, on the Yankees that's a number 1 prospect in the farm system.

Noe Ramirez, what about him getting a promotion? i think he can be a nice reliever for us. Throw multiple innings for us and give us quality innings. he is 24 would be nice if we're out of it for him to make the September call ups.

Every time I watch him pitch, I can not help but wonder how he is getting hitters out? Has to be about location and movement, cause there is no power.

Yes, his location has been good from what i have read and has had decent control. Only 13 walks in 52.2 innings. Ramirez has had a solid year, would be interested to see how he did with the Sox.

Agree - despite the start of the year, I'd find it hard to assign the tag 'failure' to any year in which a prospect makes significant, tangible improvement by the year's end. Wish we had somebody to give a first-person impression - I'd love to know if this is just a statistical blip or if there has been a real uptick in stuff and ability.

Finishing on a high would be a boost moving forward. I'd be more interested to hear what his stuff looked like once he got on a roll.

One of Johnson's 2 hits against was ruled an error. "I got ahead in the count and threw my breaking balls well when I had to," he said. "I think maybe [the breaking ball] probably helped me late in the count put away some hitters and even get ahead early in the count."
"Me and [catcher] Blake Swihart got into a rhythm pretty early in the game and we just went from there," Johnson said. "I can't take any of the credit. I don't think I shook him off once, to be honest. It's always fun throwing to him, throwing to somebody with that talent like Blake." www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140726&content_id=86306452&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb. . . "It was a little tough, but it was nice having Walk [pitching coach Kevin Walker] and our manager sticking by me," Kukuk said. "They told me, 'You're going to get through this. You're a step away from dominating.' It's nice having them in my ear, and I have great teammates that pick you up when you struggle."
"It felt great. Right from the beginning, [catcher] Carson Blair and I were on the same page," Kukuk said. "I was able to establish the fastball inside, we did that and it opened everything up with the changeup and slider. I think we both had them guessing all game, so it's always good when you and your catcher are on the same page. It's been a lot of hard work." www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140725&content_id=86296228&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&sid=milb. . . The 24-year-old right-hander is unbeaten since June 1, compiling a 1.65 ERA in his last nine starts. Overall, he leads the International League with 12 wins and trails only Buffalo's Liam Hendriks with a 2.40 ERA. The LSU product is tied for sixth with 99 strikeouts.
Friday's win also was the 10th straight for Pawtucket, eclipsing the club record. Ranaudo has picked up two victories during the streak.
MLB.com's No. 89 overall prospect was staked to an early lead, with the Red Sox scoring eight runs in the fourth to open a 10-0 cushion.
Mookie Betts collected four hits and scored twice for the PawSox. Since returning from a stint in the Majors, Boston's fifth-ranked prospect is batting .370 (10-for-27) in six games.www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140725&content_id=86312300&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&sid=milb

Yes. When I saw him in Late May he just looked way more advanced in his approach than most AA guys I've seen. I'm not saying he will be this good, but it reminded me of watching Jimmy Key.
