We don't know for sure what was and what was not on the table a few weeks or months ago, so there's still considerable uncertainty here. It's unknowable. Leaked posturing doesn't equal solid info. That said, I like the return at this point in time, and I've been wanting greater major league opportunity for our young starting prospects since the offseason.

Escobar's option situation is a little murky, and really important. I've seen reports that he's got 1 or 2 left after this year, and it certainly makes a difference, as I think he's at least a year and a half away. I think Hembree's option situation is also murky, as I've also heard/seen 2 or 1 (both confusions are apparent on this board and site, as well as elsewhere). I think from the most reliable sources I've seen that Escobar has 3 now, 2 remaing in 2015 and Hembree will use his penultimate one once the season concludes, leaving him with one for 2015. Don't have a link, but thought it was Speier.
Regardless, I think this is a great haul for a Peavy rental. I don't feel that either is likely to be more than an 7/8th inning guy or maybe 5th/6th starter for Escobar, but that's still valuable. They both have some upside beyond that as well.

I think the Red Sox did as good as they could have with this trade. I wouldn't consider a higher rated prospect that is farther away as a better package. Let's go cliche and say this team is not rebuilding it is reloading. The goal in the trade was not to build the farm system but to build the 2015 team.
Even with the mixed reports on Escobar he is still valuable. I can see him filling three possible roles. 1. as a trade piece in another deal, 2. as a spot starter in 2015, 3. as a relief pitcher/loogey in 2015. If he fills any one of those roles he alone is more valuable than the rest of Peavy's 2014
I don't get why people are so down on Hembree? He has had elite K rates through the minors and has never really been hurt by walks. As Eric pointed out the league he plays in could be a big factor in the HR's he has given up. I really can't see a major reason why he can't be penciled in to the 2015 starting day bullpen. Guaranteed 1st division closer? No. Valuable bullpen piece? Good probability.
Look at it this way, we have Uehara, Miller, Badenhop, and Breslow as free agents this year, with Doubrount asking for a trade and Mujica having a very weak season. That leaves us with Tazawa next year. We have holes to fill that Wick, Mella, or Ysila won't be able too.

Have they been in any AAA games yet, or what is the schedule for them to be integrated in? Sanchez will be starting correct?
I also always thought that closing in the minors was a bad thing. That they put org guys as closers because of the irregular playing time.

Hembree sounds like he's a candidate for Badenhop's job. Maybe more K's and more homers but overall the same value. Escobar sounds like he's going to have to go back to AAA next year at least to start.

When will these kids be ranked on this site? Not that I work for the site but a rough guess puts Escobar somewhere in the 9-12 range and Hembree somewhere in the high teens low 20s.
