Inconsistent mechanics means a combination of two things: no complete optimum muscle memory has been laid down, and/or and the brain is not getting out of the way. For a young pitcher with little history of consistency and little evidence of the latter, we should presume the former is the more accurate explanation. Laying down the intricate and complex muscle memory necessary to have great command is extremely difficult. We'll see how well Kukuk develops it. And yes, I do think it is asinine to jump to the conclusion, on the basis of no specific evidence, that a pitcher who struggles with inconsistent command does so because he is "mentally unable to focus." But that's a matter for another thread. You just can't be wrong. Eric and Guidas spell it out pretty good for lay people ( but who have studied the phenomenon). You may not have the intellect and experience to understand it. Do your homework. It is not a crime not to know everything, and the man who thinks he does knowls little. ( an old Zen saying from an old Zen )

I just looked at Kukuk's Soxprospects page. The last entry is "long lead player." What does that mean?

Is Carston Cistulli the most tedious writer in America? He's awful. "The fringe five is a weekly exercise in which I monitor and analyze baseball's most compelling fringe prospects." Omit needless words, Carson.

Carson was a published post before he was a baseball writer, I'm sure he's conscious of his wordy writing style. I really enjoy it, personally, especially considering the kind of posts he writes (like articles about weird, mediocre fringe prospects).

I know but it's still precisely the kind of writing that annoys me the most. If you like it I can't argue (much) with that. I'll give him this, the podcasts he does with Dayn Perry are absolutely hilarious.
