From Peter Abraham's piece today:
Bogaerts is hitting .146/.181/.199 in his last 40 games with nine errors. He has struck out 42 times in his last 151 at-bats and has only four extra-base hits. Yet he remains not only on the roster, but also in the lineup on most nights.
If the Sox can't move Drew at the deadline I would be all for sending Xander down and bringing Middlebrooks up. If they really think Xander is a SS then let him play SS and get at bats and instruction at AAA. He missed a lot of at bats in his meteoric rise, and a combination of being, by his own admission, out of synch and the league figuring him out more thoroughly. He is decidedly not figuring it out that the MLB level. Might as well send him down now that the team is in white flag mode, save some service time get him more development at SS and see what you have in Middlebrooks.

I really like this idea, but what happens to Marrero? He also needs the at-bats. Would you have Xander split SS and 3B? I also like the idea of seeing what you have in / showcasing Middlebrooks.

Xander back to short and Middlebrooks at 3B. I agree with most here that X is prob not a SS but the rest of this season should be all about getting as much info on the younger players as possible with an eye toward ST 2015. Best way is to put them out there and see what happens.

Should we start a pool as to whether Lester makes his July 30th start? If you're a GM who believes you need him, you don't want to waste those bullets.

Nice piece on Vasquez by Gabe Kaplan, praising his catching abilities.

Clay problems still continuing with today game. Does Ben want him to be RS #1 after Jon & John are likely gone sooner for the prospects he desire to have?

I don't think anybody expects Buchholz to be an ace at this point. If it happens then yay for us, but at this point he's pitching like a bad back-end starter. He's hard to let go because of what he could be, but he's a bad pitcher right now and I don't think you can lean on him going forward.

It has got to give everyone confidence for next year also. Lackey and Buch as the veteran top of the rotation with 3 kids to finish out the rotation. No growing pains there.

I think they have to shut Clay down until September and let him rest for a month. Bring him back at the end of year and see what he looks like.

Yes, I would have sold high and moved Felix--as a piece--after his successful WS relief outings. Thank you for asking.

It speaks volumes to the lack of interest to what the Red Sox are doing on the field that this thread is still on page one. I lost interest in the 2014 Red Sox about six weeks ago when it was pretty clear that this team had little to no shot to make the 2014 playoffs.

Just when you think things could not get any lower. Ya wonder if this Lester thing is hanging over them. Nah, they are professionals and a scrappy club.
