Options for Pawtucket tonight are Chris Hernandez to come off TIA and pitch on 3 days rest or move up Edwin Escobar a day.

They could also move up Ranaudo. He last pitched Friday, same night as Lester.

Webster is the likely candidate to get sent down for Workman. So I think they hold back Ranaudo to pick in Webster's spot next time around.

Promote Johnson?

No. Owens will be promoted, if anyone, and that after a spot opens. They don't promote prospects just to make a spot start. That's what fungible guys like Hernandez, Kehrt, etc are for. Anyway, milb.com now showing Hernandez as the starter. He probably just takes spot vacated on the roster by Workman, since someone getting optioned would get his "yet to report" days.

Is there any chance we might see Swihart promoted after all this stuff shakes out? I'd like to see him in AAA this year, and I'd especially like to begin getting him acclimated to some of our future MLB starters who are pitching there. Is there any chance that the sureness of the AA playoffs would keep him in Portland?

yeah, he's been solid all year. Pretty good for his first year pitching (at least as a pro). Looks like some potential there. Maybe he'll get a cup of coffee in Lowell this year so we can get a scouting report.

All Noe Ramirez does is pitch well. He's not flashy, but I'm covinced he'll have a successful MLB career in the bullpen.

Top of the 8th at Pawtucket, still 2-2. Reliever game but Hembree hasn't been used. Lowell up 4-2 bottom of the 8th. Travis remains el fuego, 2/4 Lowell lost 5-4 PawSox won 3-2 Hembree with the shaky save 27 pitches/18strikes. Syracuse Top of the 9th Pitching Change: Heath Hembree replaces Alex Wilson. Emmanuel Burriss strikes out swinging. Eury Perez strikes out swinging. Steven Souza singles on a soft fly ball to right fielder Corey Brown. With Tyler Moore batting, Steven Souza steals (23) 2nd base. Tyler Moore walks. Brandon Laird flies out to right fielder Corey Brown. Red Sox Stats ?@redsoxstats 4m Heath Hembree on for the PawSox save: K, K, bloop, BB, popout Sounds like he was throwing 95+ with "wipeout" .. "electric" slider. Lowell Spinners ? lowellspinners 51s Carlos Pinales was a perfect 10-for-10 in save ops,y, but the @siyanks scored 3 in the 8th to top the #Spinners, 5-4: atmilb.com/1zxzKhk

That is so odd, yet funny in a way Philsbosox. No wonder he throws such a good "curve" after looking at those 2!

Williams Jerez looking better as a pitcher.....4 IP today one hit 6 strikeouts. 6' 4" lefty. First 3 games as a pro, fanned just 4 of 37 hitters (.108) while allowing a .333 BABIP on a 43.3% GB%. Since then, he's fanned 16 of 52 (.308), a statistically significant increase, while reducing the BABIP to .281 on a 55.9% GB%. The line on these 5 outings: 13.1 9 3 2 4 16, with .188 / .250 / .229 allowed. That's domination. Speaking of which, Verdugo in his three games in relief for the PawSox (facing mostly RHB) has faced 29 hitters, fanning 11, walking 2, and allowing 3 hits. He's thrown 70.0% of his pitches for strikes while putting up an 8 3 0 0 2 11 line. You might see him in Boston sooner than later.

No. Owens will be promoted, if anyone, and that after a spot opens. Why? While Owens may have a higher ceiling, Johnson seems closer to being ready to play at the big league level in terms of consistent command.

While Owens may have a higher ceiling, Johnson seems closer to being ready to play at the big league level in terms of consistent command. Owens has 26 starts in AA compared to 16 for Brian Johnson. Owens needs a better challenge and most definitely be the one getting promoted between the two. I see Johnson finishing the season in Portland.
