Since Doubront is doing better, will our PTBNL possibly be a better player?

Since Doubront is doing better, will our PTBNL possibly be a better player? I doubt it will be anything good regardless.

I think I asked this before, but is there any chance we could get Olt back for Doubrount? I wouldn't think so, but it might make sense, he would be good minor league depth for us. It's not like Olt has a shot of competing with Rizzo or Bryant. Wishful thinking I guess.

Both have not yet met expectations despite their abilities and have been surpassed by others moving up the ladder.

Since Doubront is doing better, will our PTBNL possibly be a better player? I'm pretty sure the Red Sox establish a list of players from which to choose from before the trade is finalized. His performance post trade doesn't have the ability to change this list.

In Sunday's column, Cafardo wrote "Don’t forget, the Red Sox have a player to be named coming from the Cubs for Felix Doubront, who made an impressive first start for Chicago. Could be a decent prospect." We will have to see what decent means, and what he means "could be." Does this suggest that the list of players to draw from changes with team or Doubront performance.

I remember thinking that the PTBNL was always from a list of players already agreed upon. I don't have a source on that, but it was when I was looking at the Punto trade. I remember thinking about the possibility that if RDL reinjuried his arm before actually being traded what would happen. It would seem like a standard practice to do it that way, to avoid any bad blood in a trade. All speculation on my part though.
I think Olt would both be fair and a good deal, but I also know I had a higher opinion on Doubrount than the rest of the industry.

It could, in theory, improve based on his performance, but I doubt that would be the kind of PTBNL in play here. It's not like the Cubs traded for Doubront because they were trying to compete this year.
It's much more likely that it's either a list from which the Sox will choose or a player already agreed upon who the Cubs have agreed to protect from R5 (essentially, giving Sox 41 spots for R5) or something like that.

The season's been over for a week. Wonder when the PTBNL for Doubront will be named. I'm waiting with baited breath.

Hopefully it will be a AAA reliever or a AA player with a high upside and low ceiling.

Any chance we could get this Doubront guy? He looked passable down the stretch for the Cubs.

After the trade he faced 80 non-pitchers and struck out six of them. He is not a good pitcher.
EDIT: Remember Aaron Cook? How his first four or five games with the Red Sox he didn't strike out anyone but didn't give up many runs? Well Doubront was like that with the Cubs, except he also didn't get groundballs, and he ALSO a month earlier had complained when his team wanted to move him to the bullpen when he had a 6+ ERA. I wouldn't take him back on a minor league contract. The Red Sox could forget to redeem the PTBNL and will have won that trade.

Oof I was hoping to find out sooner, so any other guesses on what we're getting? I'm guessing a soda machine or ping-pong table.

It was reported at the time that the player would come over after Rule 5. Likely, then, that the player involved is eligible. Unclear is whether he's being protected or not.

I'm not expecting anything exciting. I'll be happy if it's a guy we don't have to put on the 40.
