Seeing as Lackey and Lester are gone, what will the rotation look like? De la Rosa, Workman, Buchholz, Webster?? who will be called up?

Ranaudo or Wright. Or Kelly.

I'm hoping Wright gets his shot.
1. Buchholz (yuck) 2. RDLR 3. Kelly 4. Webster/Workman 5. Ranaudo/Wright
Unless they move Kelly or Workman to the BP.
Next season I could see us making a splash in FA (Lester or Scherzer, hoping Lester) to shore up the ace spot, then leaving RDLR, Buchholz, Kelly, Webster, Workman, Ranaudo, Wright, and Owens to battle it out for the additional 4 spots. Its great to have this much pitching depth. Not to mention Johnson likely being ready.

I'd like to see the kids playing out the rest of the season, but I'd have to think Red Sox are signing on big name free agent starter this offseason. Or maybe a Lee deal.

I think you will see us active on the FA and trade market and I don't think 2015s top two pitchers are in the organization right now. Maybe we open the check book on Lester or Shields and we've been linked before to Menda from Japan. You could see some guys traded (Cashner) and we have the arms and other prospects to add to it.

Scott Lauber ?@scottlauber 2m #RedSox have ample opportunity now to evaluate Rubby, Workman, Webster, Ranaudo at big league level. Easier to improve pitching than offense

This is going to be like watching the Marlins in 98 and 04. If you have 2 legitimate guys at the top you can get by with kids at the back end. Who here thinks Clay is going to make 30 starts throw 200 innings and be good? So that leaves no one at the top. Unless they get some top end guys this off season it is going to be brutal and I like the kids for the most part. I really hope the scouts are wrong on these guys ceilings. Because a rotation of 4's is not going to win anything no matter how well the Sox hit.

Scott Lauber ?@scottlauber 30s Regardless of what happens in next hour, #RedSox won't go into '15 with Buchholz, Kelly & kids in rotation. Lots of time to address pitching

For the remainder of 2014 I'd like to see Buchholz, RDLR, Webster, Kelly, Ranaudo/Workman, with Wright getting some reps as well. Would like to see Lester back this winter to anchor that same rotation, with Workman in the 'pen and the best 2 of Webster/Wright/Kelly/Ranaudo joining Buch, Lester and RDLR in Boston for 2015. Even without Lester, they would have a chance, but they'd be relying an awful lot on production from 5-7 guys who have yet to prove anything.

I'm predicting Owens in the rotation next year. You must think the kids they bring up this year are really going to suck.

I'm predicting Owens in the rotation next year. By season's end? I don't think the prospect rotation is going to be that bad. They probably lack a #1 guy unless Buchholz re-emerges, but they certainly have depth, and any of those kids has a shot to be very good start to start. There will be some growing pains for sure, but I'd expect them to be respectable by end of July 2015.

They're going to tank this season with all rotation being re-order. No hope to get out of last place. The FO is looking for top 10 picks in 2015 draft.

Right now it is not like they have someone like Lester or Shields to look up to and talk to.

You must think the kids they bring up this year are really going to suck. I think he'll be that good. I hope so. Have you seen him pitch at all? I have not so I can only go by what the scouts are saying. I would love to see him come in like D-Train did with Florida and pitch great from the start. Without the flameout at an early age of course.

I think Owens spends next year in AAA in all likelihood. Maybe if we'd made some of these deals earlier and he'd been able to get 10-15 starts in AAA this year they'd throw him in the mix for a rotation spot next spring, but as it is, I can't see it. What is he, 22? They're going to let him polish his command and that curve, maybe try to add another pitch to his arsenal before they bring him up, and I think that's the right approach. I think they add a big time pitcher this offseason- ideally Lester or Price, maybe Hamels or Shields failing that, or maybe more than one, and fill out the rotation with buchholz, RDLR, and Kelly/whoever earns the spot over the course of the rest of the season. The remainder of the AAA crowd can be used either in the bullpen (where I think Webster could be great) or as trade chips, given the sheer volume of likely decent major league starters we now have in the minors

LOL, yeah it will be batting practice. looks like we will lose 90 games again. In 2014 sure. But in 2015, there's no way they make the deals they just did without adding significantly to the starting rotation this offseason. If we'd just acquired a bunch of prospects, I could see it. But it's glaringly obvious that they decided to start reloading for next year now, and take the opportunity to find out what they really have in terms of upper minors pitching, while also making it likely they pick in the top 10 next year

The rotation for next two months will get hammered. That is a good thing though, as we make a run for the top pick in 2015. This isn't the NBA. If you are going to be bad, be very bad. Chance on better talent and more money slotted to spread around.

All I asked for once the season went to crap was for the Sox to figure out what they had in the bulk of their pitching prospects. That's exactly what we are going to get. I can't imagine it will be smooth, but letting guys like Webster, Rubby, & Ranaudo pitch in the MLB every 5 days should give a better idea on how much the Sox need to invest in the rotation come 2015 and beyond
