Very well done article, specifically the parts about the changes he was making to his batting approach. Well worth the look see.

Well the part about X struggling because he didn't play enough little league games was ummm interesting. That part was referencing a previous article that I don't remember the author of, regarding players from Aruba. It pretty much pointed to the comparative lack of baseball amateur experience by Aruban players and was pretty well done. You're reading out of context.

As if Rusney Castillo wasn't already fast enough...
www.tmz.com/2015/01/25/rusney-castillo-porsche-911-custom-red-sox/
"Red Sox outfielder Rusney Castillo only came over from Cuba a few months ago, but he's already BALLIN' OUT like an American ... dropping $85,000 to trick out his $84,000 Porsche!!!
Castillo took his 2014 Avorza Porsche 911 Turbo to Alex Vega and the guys at the Auto Firm in Miami with the following marching orders -- MAKE IT AWESOME!
So what do you get for all that money? Vega says he and his crew took the entire car apart piece by piece to paint it "Snow White" ... then added detailing in red and black, Castillo's favorite colors.
Vega gutted the interior as well to put in red and black leather seats. Watch the video though for the highlight ... a custom grill with Castillo's #38 in lights. There's even a #38 light that shines on the road when he opens the doors."

I was glad to see that Rusney was part of the Red Sox "Winter Weekend" at Foxwoods--and without sounding like a company shill, they had some really solid panels for prospect followers. He was part of a panel entitled "The Journey of the Latin Player" with Christian Vazquez, Victor Rodriguez and Luis Tiant. Not much surprising in any of his remarks (translated by Adrian Lorenzo), but he did single out how important it was to him that he has his wife with him, which isn't always the case for players who have preceded him on his path to MLB.

Interesting post, sittingstill. Everything I've read about Rusney suggests that he's going to be a great teammate. Of all the Red Sox players, I'm most curious to see how Rusney performs this year. In particular, when Pedroia sits out a game, I'd be curious to see Rusney and Mookie hitting 1-2, though not necessarily in that order.

Yeah but if he gets 500 of those, he'll be broke.

As long as Rusney doesn't pattern his driving habits after his countryman Mr. Puig, I don't see any harm in him splurging on a car. You do raise an interesting point though. Ten years from now, it'll be interesting to see how this wave of Cuban players are doing financially. Hopefully these guys are getting some decent financial advice.

If you don't like splurging on cars (not implying anyone above is), don't go to the players' lot in Rookie ball. Give six figures to an 18-year-old, and you know some of it's going to the car.
(Hilarious part being that they don't realize they ain't driving the thing much during the season once they get out of the complex...)

The choice of white does raise some serious makeup questions though.

The choice of white does raise some serious makeup questions though. That balance of red on white, makes me think of a Sox home jersey. I love it.

He'll be driving it at a top speed of 18 mph in the Boston city limits. :-)

I wonder if he knows all about Uncle Sam taking a lump sum much like this dealer did?

Thank you for posting that! I'm encouraged by his plate approach and his tools seem good enough to be at least an above average regular. I won't use the word "star", because even Cherington has said he's a good player. It's going to be a fun season at least offensively.

@jmastrodonato: Farrell shut down the idea of Rusney Castillo joining the Red Sox anytime soon. Said he needs significant at-bats in AAA.

Rusney not in the PawSox lineup in Indy... and they aren't showing the available bench players.

It's entirely possible that they didn't get into the clubhouse to photograph the lineup card because it's a road game. For what it's worth, the game notes went out and included Bianchi being activated and Scott going back to Portland, but no transaction with Castillo.

Yeah, no one knows anything and he's probably sitting in the PawSox clubhouse. I just felt like being a troublemaker.

The photo is of the lineup sheet that's in the press box. That doesn't ever show the bench players. They typically photograph the lineup card in the clubhouse at McCoy. Since they aren't at McCoy, I'm just saying that it could be for logistical reasons. It's very easy at McCoy to get from the box down to the clubhouse. Maybe it isn't at Indy's field so they didn't bother.

Don't know what is happening tomorrow or going forward, but he's away from the team for the birth of a baby today.
