If it's true that they are going to be "aggressive" I would assume they are going to include both Betts and Bradley in deals. I would doubt that are going to pay that kind of money for someone who isn't an immediate CF starter.
With the nyy focusing on 2b for him I don't know if that would be a negative if his preference is Cf (Ellsbury). I doubt ny will be outbid for him if they legitimately want him as an inf?

I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually try Mookie at 3rd base. I dont think signing Castillo would be an indictment on Betts' future, it's more acquire talented OF and figure out the rest later.

Unless they're planning on flipping Cespedes, Napoli, or Craig in the Offseason, I as well see Betts and/or Bradley traded if we are aggressively trying to sign Castillo. I see a pitcher or a guy like Tulo coming back in a deal.

Forgive me,I haven't followed this much, but what gives here. It is suppose to be a blind bidding process, but some crack reporter is saying the Yanks are already negotiating with him.

It's not a blind bidding process, though. He's free to negotiate with any team.

This is a vague process but the way I understand it the bidding is blind but he is under no requirement to accept the highest bid. So even though it's likely he would take the highest offer if he wanted to go elsewhere for other reasons, he can?

OK, if that's their interpretation of blind, sure. To me, it implies the highest bidder wins, which isn't necessarily the case here.

Honestly, most free agents use what is essentially a modified blind bidding process. It really just means that the player/agent will solicit bids, won't shop offers around to other teams, and will accept the highest bid.

You might be partially right but we hear to much about what the bids are before hand from some of the media who claim to know... That is unless it is Boras then the mystery team is always the highest bidder till the last day.

Heavily edited hype video of Castillo's workout:
The dude is ripped, but that's just about all I took away.

Can he actually play short? Or was that just filler for the video?

Did not realize you were a professional forum critic. I hope you send you report to the garbage bin. In all seriousness, I dont think his post was a critique of Castillo as a player. Just that a hype video is pretty useless for evaluation. It's like watching a Dunk Contest video, yeah cool to look at but doesn't mean anything about them as players.

There's less here than there is in the typical video for a new draftee. I got a lot more out of watching Michael Chavis in the cage and in the field, and that's not enough to make any sort of clear judgement on the player. As for the Sox, why would they care about this when they can work the guy out themselves?

Sifting through the offers and making a decision doesn't sound like blind bidding.

Red Sox Stats ?@redsoxstats 2h
Sounds like bids for Rusney Castillo are due today according to George King. Will apparently sign, play last 2 wks of MiLB season, then MLB.

FYI, while the person who runs that account is generally well-informed about baseball and has smart things to say, he/she doesn't have any inside sources or anything, so this statement is just conjecture on his/her part based on the article posted above.

There are some pretty high demands from Castilos camp that he will play a couple weeks in the minors and then finish out the season on a MLB roster. The guy hasn't played organized ball in over a year.
