Workman just imploded. 6 hits so far in one inning. After last nights collapse no way we win more then 70 games.

We may be seeing Workman's last start of the season. His FB is getting demolished. He can still be good moving forward, as the swing man out of the pen and spot starter, but this starting every 5 days is not working What makes you think so. Wishful thinking. He needs pin point command and is at best a mop up man.

Workman needs to be the long guy in the pen.

Need to send Buchholz to the pen as well. Maybe he could be the future closer if he can stay healthy. he is not getting it done as a starter.

As always the first intentional HBP is free. We should do it more often just to be safe.

Why is Ross still playing? He is moving around like he is walking on glass.

Why is Ross still playing? He is moving around like he is walking on glass. Looks like he was trying to get a suspension so you wouldn't have to see him again for a while.

Ross thrown out of the game, arguing a checked swing. Thought he didn't go. Lol Ross tried to act like a big shot and kept trying to go after 1B umpire.

Hard to believe/accept being this bad after WS win last year. Hope for better days in 2015, but meaningless August/September games make for a long season of fandom.

Sox will be playing meaningful baseball in September. The way the Orioles played meaningful baseball in 2011 against contending teams and enjoyed knocking them out.
Or maybe not.

Hope you guys are right about Workman, but in the minors he also did well as a starter, even last year in the majors to an extent. And why is it that every time a pitcher has problems as a stater. the knee jerk response is to the pen. Some can for the reasons some cited; some just so so. it depends on the pitcher. I really doubt that "every pitcher is significantly better out of the pen." Every pitcher and significantly better, huh. Show that to be the case, if you can with that outrageous claim of 'every' and 'significantly better'. Good luck with the data. Who are you, Eric?
Workman's success was based on good command and moving the ball around. His fastball was never that outstanding, but he was able to move it around and hit spots. He is having problems doing this now. He may get it back, but he will have the same problems in the pen, at least initially. But the pen talk has some validity, mop up or long relief so he can get his groove back.

In my mind the command issue with workman is more about staying sharp than repeating his delivery. So if he is working out of the pen every other day, he theoretically should stay sharper.

Agreed, i just thought it was funny his reaction going down to first place. Reminded me of when Farrell had to hold back Jon Rauch. but that was WAY worse. lol

Well, checked swings are entirely up to the discretion of the umpire so you can't really argue with it reasonably. A totally infuriating aspect of the sport.

Sox will be playing meaningful baseball in September. The way the Orioles played meaningful baseball in 2011 against contending teams and enjoyed knocking them out. Or maybe not. In addition to the team playing meaningful games in September, there are a number of players who will be playing meaningful games, in terms of auditioning for their potential future with the organization. I've always wondered if it isn't more difficult for an organization with a history of success to play out the string in a non-competitive season than it is for a team that is usually out of contention. The perennial doormat is used to playing under such circumstances, the organization with a record of success, not so, so that the disappointment and probably disinterest is more obvious in their play.

Raise your hand if you enjoy watching Will Middlebrooks play baseball. *crickets* I didn't know there were crickets hiding in the armpits of all those people who raised their hands.
