Good start for the Sox in AFL. Castillo reaches on BB, moves to second on a WP, goes to third on a Sean Coyle SF, scores on a single.Still first inning.

The need to get him basestealing reps outweighs any minor injury risk, IMO.

Betts made 10 attempts in 16 games last year. I get that there are different levels of commitment, etc., but there is really no reason based on what they have done in the past to think that the Red Sox will limit Castillo to lower his injury risk.

No Sox in tonight's lineup, although old friend Frankie Montas is on the mound for the opposition. Maybe we'll get a Robby Scott debut?

Montas is rapidly starting to scare me. Eventually, one of these Montas, Roman Mendez, Raul Alcantara, Pimental (who I am forgetting?) types is going to bite us in the arse....

We should never trade prospects because they might turn out to be good? Pp

We should never trade prospects because they might turn out to be good? Pp Where did Anyone on this site write that the Red Sox should never trade for prospects? Obviously, there are times when it is appropriate to trade prospects to fill holes. It is also possible to become overly cavalier about trading prospects. I don't happen to think that's the case for the team, although I think it is true of the Boston press and much of the team's fan base. And this is a problem since the team is a business -- the Red Sox need a passionate fan base to support the level of investment in player development and free agents. Given that there is a strong case to be made that the Red Sox biggest problem is the lack of high impact young players -- and yes, Betts, Bogaerts et al might change that -- I think the disproportionate flow of prospects out of Boston vs. the flow in and how long that can be sustained is an excellent topic for discussion.

Castillo looks like he is being overpowered. LOL, SSS, he ended up 2/6 and is batting .333 on the AFL season.

Castillo looks like he is being overpowered. Come on Larry. Saying someone "looks overpowered" should be reserved for more than a glance at a partial-game box score.

Good outing from Keith Couch yesterday. Going up against Mark Appel, he went 5 IP surrendering 5 hits, no runs, no BBs. Marrero, batting .333, had one of only four Saguaro hits. Coyle 0 for 3

Very small sample size, obviously, but Sean Coyle has now struck out in 14 of 32 at-bats. 1 for 18 with 9 k's and 2 bb's in his last 5. No es bueno.

Rusney Castillo and Robby Scott named to AFL rising stars team.
What do we have in Scott? He had an excellent season in Portland, even though he's old for the competition. Not sure what to make of him.
