Gotta love the subtle slyness of the Sox optioning Ranaudo to Greenville so they can recall him right after their season ends on Monday night. With PAW, POR & SAL all either playoff-bound or still in the hunt, had be been sent to any of them he'd have had to wait 10 days or for an injury on the 25-man.
I do wish this move had been made during a weekday afternoon so we could hear a bewildered Felger & Mazz questioning why Ranaudo was demoted to low-A ball before turning their attention to the front office and screaming at them for their stupidity.

@peteabe: Delay will be until at least 7:20 because of power outage at the Trop. Not all the lights are on.

mabrown. Unfortunately, that maneuver is no longer state of the art innovation. Soxprospects was on top of it a few Septembers back.
but which 2 players soon take the Victorino and Herrera spots on the 40 man? Ely, Verdugo, Matt Spring as the temporary 3rd catcher ? Is Spring really injured?
Who skips the first round of IL playoffs? Hembree?

THANK YOU! Webster hit Longoria, that should be the end of that. But, it costs us a run.

I think I saw Tony C's last HR in 1975 in Baltimore. He had been out of baseball for three years when the Sox brought him back. He hit .123 with two HRs. I was in the press box in Baltimore when he hit one, and I think it was his last one. He was released by the Sox late in the season, his career over at the age of 30. The HR you saw was in his 3rd game after returning ( April 11) and was his first of the year. It was also just his second hit, having singled in his first AB of the season on Opening Day vs the Brewers at Fenway -- a day when Tony got to meet Hank Aaron prior to the game ( photo). He hit another HR, his last, over the Green Monster on May 20 vs the A's. Jim Woods' radio call of that blast was included on the commemorative Super Sox '75 LP ( now available on CD), as was Ned Martin's call of his first hit. He played his final game in the majors on June 12 and, as you noted, was released much later on Sept. 2

I hope we are ready in the bullpen, bases loaded no outs for the Rays.

I hate the Rays as much as anyone on the planet, but I don't think it was a cheap shot at all. He had his left hand reaching toward the bag as he slid, but then he rolled his body to the left to avoid Pedroia's legs. Doing so made him lose his balance, potentially losing his grip on the bag and allowing him to be tagged out. He was merely using his right arm to re-balance himself, and stuck it out there instinctively. He had no way of knowing Pedroia's face would be in the way.

I don't think intent really matters when one of your players is taken out by a shot to the head. Forsythe needs to be dusted in the middle of the back next at bat.

I hear at one time Mazz was a baseball guy but its hard to believe sometimes listening to his rants.

My memory is faint from that period, but I remembered him hitting that homerun, and not doing much else. A terribly tragic story.

What happened to Pedroia? There is no information on Gameday other than he left the game.

I think that Webster isn't going to be one of the regular starters. He might be better in the BP.

I think that Webster isn't going to be one of the regular starters. He might be better in the BP. Don't see him there either. He will be a good AAA or AAAA pitcher. Ranaudo, Wilson & Workman don't impress much as well.....not a stud in the bunch.
