“He fills (the strike zone) up,” catcher Carson Blair said. “It feels like a video game. Wherever I put the glove, he’s there.”
Mike Antonellis ?@seadogsradio 11m ICYMI: Brian Johnson lowered his ERA to 1.75, which now qualifies as the best career ERA in team history. (Jon Lester previous mark 2.57)

Hope this isn't too serious:
* Ben Moore singles on a sharp ground ball to third baseman Jake Gronsky. Javier Guerra to 3rd. Rafael Devers to 2nd. * Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Devon Fisher replaces Ben Moore. * GCL Red Sox catcher Ben Moore left the game due to an injured hip.
I was at the first 4 innings of the GCL League game. First time ever seeing the GCL Red Sox in person. I work near Roger Dean Stadium so I go to some Cardinals and Marlins games on my lunch break sometimes.
Kopech throws very hard and also got hit very hard. A few doubles to the gaps. I could hear the whoosh as the ball came out of his hand, but also hear the loud crack when his pitches were hit. Chavis and Devers both look good. Moore got hurt running to first on an infield single to third. I didnt see what happened since I was watching the hit. Ockimey is huge. Would be nice if he can develop into a big time power hitter.
Any questions? Please ask and I'll do my best to answer.

Thanks for the report. Did you notice if Moore crossed first base standing or was it a head-first slide/collision? Did he need any assistance leaving the field?
Is Basabe the Willie Wilson-style slap & sprint hitter he seems to profile as? Or does he have any Kirby Puckett compact power in his swing?
Any observations on Kemp, Miller & Basabe in the outfield as far as their speed, range, routes, or arm strength?
It is possible that Castillo will play three innings tomorrow and five innings on Sunday.
Last night I was bitching about how John Mayberry Jr. was pretty much a ringer for still being on a rehab assignment with Lehigh Valley, as he's crushed the PawSox in 3 of his 7 games in that stint -- including a HR a week ago that proved his wrist was just fine.
But a perfectly healthy 27-year-old Rusney Castillo making $12M per season being eligible for a GCL playoff game? I can see that being one of the top 10 ringers in recorded sports history.
I really didnt see how Moore got hurt. Might have been on the swing or busting it down the line. Saw he was safe and then noticed the trainer was out there and he was doing the twisting/stretching motions you would normally do to try and sww what and where it hurts. He walked around for a few minutes and then came out. Didnt look serious.
Basabe has an odd beginning to his stance with his hands over his head and his arms bent and tucked, but once he's ready to swing, everything looked ok. He's lean, so i would say slap hitter for now.
Kemp looked good. Nothing hit especially hard, but kept spraying singles.
Miller didnt show much of anything.
Chavis was the DH and nothing was hit to Devers.
Lots of chatter when they scored, so it looks like a good group who enjoy playing with each other.
I'd say a pretty gutty win to take a morning bus ride across the state, fall behind early 3-0 and playing in 100 degree heat index and battle back to win.

so where should a guy that hasn't played a game in over a year get some at bats before he faces live pitches in the Majors? I am almost certain the signing wasn't an attempt for the Sox to "buy" a GCL title.

You're missing the intended subtle humor in my post. I'm not faulting the Sox for playing him there, but I do think the juxtaposition of him and his teammates is funny. It's like some fictitious Brady Bunch episode with Kareem Abdul Jabbar joining Greg Brady's high school basketball team and leading them to the trophy.
I also think it's potentially fodder for Yankee fans to whine, "Our kids woulda won it if they didn't let that Castillo guy play!" far more vociferously than I complained about Mayberry last night. Or, should his rusty skills backfire, those same fans could end up talking a bunch of "Ha! Youse guys had Castillo, and our kids STILL won!" trash.
As for the bold, I'm 100% certain of that. And never meant to imply otherwise. I fully understand that the timing of his signing combined with his inactivity forces a situation like this. Much like the potential safety concerns of him playing in any of the Caribbean winter leagues will likely result in him playing in the AFL rather than facing competition more on his level.

Thanks again for the detailed feedback. Great to have a set of eyes that can tell us more than a box score.
I spaced on Chavis DHing today. As for the bus ride, they drove down yesterday and spent the night there. But yeah, still a great comeback victory on the road in a do-or-die setting.
You're welcome. I wish I got to see the GCL Red Sox all summer, but I work in Jupiter so its only the Cardinals, Marlins, Mets and Nationals in the Division.

Personally, I think Castillo should just go up the minor league ladder, playing in every playoff series a Sox affiliate is involved in. That'd be awesome.

Live in Lakeland and Tigers, NY, Atlanta and Houston. Only Tampa is fairly close trip on I-4 though.
2 years in a row get to see GCL Sox play at Steinbrenner field, hope the ny stadium nazi's are not on display there again at the practice field they use there keeping everybody shut out, thinking this is some kind of world series or something and everybody has paid a ticket price to attend like they did last year there.
