An adventurous t-8th as Nunez puts the first two on and is promptly pulled for Keivin Heras, who after a WP and IBB gets out of the bases-loaded jam on a GIDP. Still a one-run game.
EDIT - A meek b-8th as Basabe & JoshOck get caught looking and Kemp grounds out.

Mystique and Aura begin the t-9th by reaching on infield singles to Devers, but the Sox slay the ghosts on a force-out and yet another GIDP. And the umps toss MFY manager Travis Chapman for good measure. On to the b-9th.

Simon Mercedes having an efficient quality outing so far. 5 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 6 K, and 51 of 72 pitches for strikes. He just whiffed Raul Mondesi Jr. to end the b-5th and strand a runner at 3B after a 2-out triple.
Salem up 2-1.

Margot is not in the lineup for Salem.
Rodriguez done, his Portland ERA jumped up. 70p/51s 6IP 5H (all singles) 1R 2BB 4K 6GO/6FO 6-1 Portland
Salem up 3-1 top 8th. Mercedes still in but might be done after 7 and 87 pitches.

Hopefully they're just giving Margot a breather before the playoffs.
Meanwhile Mercedes is still dealing, now through 7 strong with 1 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 9 K, 87 pit, 63 strikes.

Jose Vinicio has been quietly rebuilding his season of late. He returned from the DL on June 26 following a 2-month absence, but hit just .149/.183/.164/.347 in 78 PA over his first 22 games through August 15. That's 10-for 67 with just 1 XBH (double), and an 18/3 K:BB.
In 14 games since then (including 1-for-3 so far today) he's got a .438/.440/.563/1.003 line over 53 PA. One red flag continues to be his paltry walk rate (no BB over this latest stretch vs 9 K), but it's great to see him once again spraying hits all over the place.

Heh. Good point. Not sure why I didn't use "finally" there, so I'll go ahead and make the edit.

Really impressed with Rodriguez so far. He didn't even have a down year before we traded for him unless you don't look at peripherals, and he's been fantastic since we got him. I think him, Owens, and Rubby are far ahead of all our other young pitchers, and I'd call him our 4th best prospect

Jake Romanski with an OPS boost to end August, 4/4 with 4 doubles. Advanced college defensive catcher. He's a tad old, he apparently took the scenic route through college but he's been doing well. Salem up 4-1 bottom of the 9th.
Salem 4-1 final. Battery powered tonight.
Farrell confirmed. Wright to Boston tomorrow.

It will be fun going to Camden Yards in a couple of years and watching Rodriguez shut down the O's for seven innings then get relieved by a re-signed Andrew Miller.

It's good to see Rodriguez pitch well and we'd rather have that than the opposite, but to be evenhanded about it, Harrisburg's lineup is uniformly Blaaaaaaaaaaah.

PawSox strike first in the b-2nd (Hassan BB, Corey Brown RBI double), then Rochester gets 3 off Owens in the t-3rd (2 BB, a double steal, and a pair of doubles). Sox retake the lead in the bottom half with 3 runs on 5 straight 2-out singles (Henry, Brentz, Lavarnway, Cecchini, Hassan). 4-3 good guys, t-4th.
EDIT - Five more in the b-4th, as they've forced two pitching changes in the inning. Hassan just drove in two with a single to make it 9-3. If this isn't enough for Owens, we've got a problem.

Knock on Rodriguez is his secondaries. He might have some of the same growing pains Owens did at AAA, but the more "Range of 2nd to 5th SP" guys we have, the better. The 5th-7th SP (Workman plus whoever of Diaz, Ranaudo Webster etc you don't care for) are the guys you'd love to flip.

Considering the wet weather Owens' peripherals weren't bad at all tonight (6 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 9 K, 63 of 95 pitches for strikes) but the clustering killed him in the t-3rd. Then after getting the 6-run lead, he was tagged for a meaningless solo HR in the t-5th. Add it all up and presto, you've got 4 ER and a 6.00 ERA for the night. His ERA in 6 AAA starts is now 4.03.
Hinojosa has worked a scoreless t-7th. The PawSox have added another run in the b-7th (De Jesus RBI single after an 11-pitch AB, scoring Hassan) and Rochester just brought in their 6th pitcher of the night.
