PawSox ?@pawsox 6m The rain has finally won out...for now. The field is covered and we are in a rain delay. PawSox lead Rochester 10-4 bottom 7th. Stay tuned.

Considering the wet weather Owens' peripherals weren't bad at all tonight (6 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 9 K, 63 of 95 pitches for strikes) but the clustering killed him in the t-3rd. Then after getting the 6-run lead, he was tagged for a meaningless solo HR in the t-5th. Add it all up and presto, you've got 4 ER and a 6.00 ERA for the night. His ERA in 6 AAA starts is now 4.03. Hinojosa has worked a scoreless t-7th. The PawSox have added another run in the b-7th (De Jesus RBI single after an 11-pitch AB, scoring Hassan) and Rochester just brought in their 6th pitcher of the night. Owens will need a good 20 plus starts next year at Pawtucket before he is ready for Fenway.

I'll predict mid June for Owens.
This is very cool:

What's to learn for Owens? He momentarily lost control in the 2nd, walked the first two guys, and it led to a 3-run inning. Then he gave up a solo HR.
AND THAT'S ALL. He gave up NOTHING else in 6 innings. His whip for the game was 0.83. And despite his momentary wildness in the 2nd he threw 2/3 of his pitches for strikes. It just so happened that things bunched up a little and 4 of his 5 wh scored.
Owens isn't going to throw zeroes every time. Nobody does. But it isn't as if he was struggling throughout, or wasn't generally in command of the game. And he did register 9 K's.
Keep in mind that Owens is about 20 innings above last year's total. He may be getting a little weary as the season winds down. Probably the biggest reason he needs to start, if not stay, at AAA next year is so his workload can be monitored and manipulated a little, because once he gets to Fenway the gloves generally have to come off if he goes into the rotation.

Or on the other hand, most 'top prospects' seem to have their games come together at mid-June. By coincidence, they are also no longer super-two candidates. It's purely coincidental of course. For non blue chipper's, the guys that project to be average major league players or less, they seem to have their games come together about 3 weeks into the season. Funny how it always seems to work out that way.
Neither Mookie nor Xander nor JBJ will end up being super two, leastwise not after the first two. I would bet that if Henry Owens started next year with 5 consecutive no hitters, he would still have something that needed refining. Polanco this year needed more experience coming in on fly balls. Everybody plays that game and it's the game negotiated by the players union and continued this past CBA, it's nothing underhanded or unusual.
PawSox ?@pawsox 8m The tarp is off the field. What a job by the PawSox groundscrew. Now it's up to the umpires if we resume. Sox lead Rochester 10-4 bottom 7th
I don't think they can but here's the situation: Kelly OConnor ?@sittingstillsox 48m Tough to have a rain-shortened score in an elimination game. I wonder if there's any precedent for completing game tomorrow. #pawsox
For Rochester, they are going to do whatever they can to get the game in, their season is on the line here.

Drive won 3-2 behind a fine outing by Quick Draw McGrath. Lowell lost 5-3. Hudson was 3/4, BB Really impressed with Rodriguez so far. He didn't even have a down year before we traded for him unless you don't look at peripherals, and he's been fantastic since we got him. I think him, Owens, and Rubby are far ahead of all our other young pitchers, and I'd call him our 4th best prospect I love this trade so, so much. It will be fun going to Camden Yards in a couple of years and watching Rodriguez shut down the O's for seven innings then get relieved by a re-signed Andrew Miller. That's a pretty vindictive point of view. I'm hoping Miller is the difference in Baltimore advancing a series. PawSox ?@pawsox 15m A few players from both teams are starting to stretch. Looks like this game will be determined on the field. PawSox trying to clinch up 10-4 Hope everyone is OK: National Weather Service conducting survey of damage in Worcester, Ma., after severe storms hit area - @stormchaser4850 Game resumes at 11:35 but they likely won't be the last game of the night, Clev/KC just went into rain delay in the bottom of the 10th with Clev up 4-2. Clev is just ahead of the MFY in the wildcard chase.

Game resumed. Britton got through the 8th. He's been getting better results lately and his ERA is now under 6.00. 10-4 bottom of the 8th.
PawSox ?@pawsox 2m
PawSox clinch wild card with 10-4 victory over Rochester. Pawtucket hosts Syracuse Wed. & Thur. at 7:05 pm in Games 1 & 2 of semi-finals!
The Clev/KC game is an interesting rain delay. Playoff implications and Cleveland has a home day game tomorrow.
Clevland game suspended to 9/22 with Clev up 4-2 in the 10th.

During the Portland broadcast, Antonellis mentioned that Luis Diaz might be activated for the playoffs. I was speculating that Diaz was shut down for innings, not an actual injury, and that would seem to correlate to that speculation.

I'm actually a semi-O's fan, as much as one can be a fan of another AL East team. I go to non-Sox Orioles games, and I'll be actively rooting for them to win the AL this year (and face the Nats in the World Series). And sure, I hope Miller pitches well during that run. Still doesn't mean it won't be fun to see the Rodriguez/Miller thing happen, though.

I'm reminded of an Angelo's explosion years ago when the Sox Rule 5 claimed Vaughn Eschellman from the O's and he started the next season 3-0 for Boston.
A long time ago in a galaxy far away

Mike Miller with 3 Homers in his last 10 games, 1 previously in his career. Wind blowing out?? Where was Coyle?...Man, I hope that we don't trade that guy. Miller has mostly been playing third base. Just noticed this, but Almanzar hadn't been playing much recently. I wonder if the discussions with Baltimore were basically already happening/done and they didn't want him reaggravating his knee.
