They should be up 2-0. The manager made some questionable decisions. Catcher interference having Lavarnway not Swihart. Also the closer been struggling . But they failed to score bottom of the tenth.

I wonder if Swihart is hurt. I'm glad there's a game Friday now too, though the weather may be a factor.

I was at the game last night.
I got to Mccoy in the second with my 10 year old and the box office folks were kind enough to give us a couple of tickets.
Johnson is a little underwhelming in person, but when you look up, he is quietly effective. He seemed to be a bit fatigued, but didn't give up much if anything hit hard.
The hilight on the mound was clearly Miguel Celestino. Just a completely dominant 6 batters. It felt like a potential k with every batter. 96 on fastball and a devistating 84 change. It didn't hurt that I was lucky enough to be a predominantly Dominican section that was really into every one of his pitches.
Hembree really seemed to labor on all his pitches and looked like your typical later inning overweight hitable low nineties guy.
Marrero is a joy to watch in the field and his at bats were at least competitive.
Still very disappointed with Cecchini. I just dont see much there. Brentz wasn't at his best either. All in all, not a lot left in the bucket with the bat.
Castillo was a little underwhelming. the stage was set for him in the ninth and he was overagressive first pitch swinging with a very weak pop out to second/short right with Cecchini on tird and only one out. He is not particularly big but has a quick swing.
It was a almost perfect night to end the home season.

Lavarnway got on base 3 times out of 4 AB ( 2 hits and a walk ) and the opposing team scored 4 runs in 11 innings with no stolen bases but Lavarnway's glove somehow interfered with a batter's swing ( I assume ) and he was the reason they lost. I get it. It is near universal with the Lavarnway bashing. The guy can't get credit for anything, even though he has been fairly decent for 2 years now.

Not having seen Johnson pitch before, how did you determine that he was fatigued? Did you speak with him?

Still waiting on that ISO to pass the .100 mark as a guy who can only possibly help with his bat. Nice OBP this year, but I don't see how that holds up in the majors without the power.

The guy can't get credit for anything, even though he has been fairly decent for 2 years now. You mean a huge disappointment? Lavarnaway was a 6th round draft pick who signed for 325k. He got several cups of coffee, and his numbers in the bigs are not terrible. How can you call him a huge disappointment? I think the contempt for Lavarnaway is misplaced. In absolute baseball terms he is not a success, however, in many ways, he is a player development success in that he got much further than one could have been expected. His biggest crime seems to be the fact that he got some peoples hopes up before hitting his true talent level. But that isn't Lavarnaway's problem, rather the problem is with the people who blame him for being a tease.

I'm not sure of your point. To clarify, by "seemed a bit fatigued' it was the way he moved around the mound and on and of the field. I'm just trying to share my impressions of being on the ground. I Always appreciate the live comments from posters who have live eyes at the games: it can fill in many blanks after reviewing scores, stats, and the reports and discussions here.

That and that most people here projected him as a total failure and can't wait to write him off now, no matter what he does, to confirm their earlier opinion. My whole point from the beginning was that his intangibles gave him a shot, and I think he still has a major league career as a decent back up catcher/1st base depth guy. We should give him his due. He is not a total failure. If we could give him a little more bat speed he'd be a starter somewhere. He's a smart hitter, doing the best he can.

Henry isn't looking very sharp. Even in the easy first couple of innings, the outs were hard. Down 3-2 after 3.

Durham announcer saying Henry will not be coming out for the fifth that Ramirez is warming in the pen like as if he's definitely coming in. Owens has 82 pitches / 48 strikes through 4.
Noe did come in for the fifth. I'm guessing end of season thing for Owens, he hasn't been pitching well lately and fits the M.O. He was throwing 90-91 but wasn't locating anything well.
Noe with a good mix FB, SL, and changeup. Still 3-2 after 5.
In an effort to keep the Lavarnway guy appeased, umps called catchers interference again with Swihart behind the plate. Replays show it didn't happen. Inning done but Noe gave up a solo. 4-2 after 6.
Pitching change for the Bulls. PawSox looking better (they generally looked out of whack against the starter's high stuff) but didn't score. Still 4-2.
Noe generating a lot of grounders, mostly with his changeup but isn't throwing as many strikes as usual (45/22-3 innings). 4-2 after 7.
Valdez in for the bottom of the eighth. He worked around a double, features a splitter. 4-2 gong into the 9th.
It should be noted that in the inning where the Bulls scored 3 there was an attempt by Marrero to get a runner going to third, right decision because he likely would have gotten him but his throw was off line. Good throw there, different game.
Nice AB by Cecchini for a double to score Lavarnway who reached on a strikeout passed ball. Was down 0-2 and fouled several off before rifling a shot to right field.
Close but no cigar. Swihart pop out with Cecchini 90 feet away. 4-3 final.

Close but no cigar. Swihart pop out with Cecchini 90 feet away. 4-3 final. That catchers interference call was bizarre. The home plate ump called it initially. Bowles went out to argue, then the umps had a meeting and called him out. Then the Bulls manager went out and they called him safe again. Then Bowles argued for quite awhile but didn't get tossed. I was sitting in front of the most obnoxious fan I've ever seen at a baseball game. He was so loud and rude it was unenjoyable. Rich Saveur started yapping at the umpire at this point. The guy behind me yelled something about growing some balls and the umpire threw Saveur out (we were right next to the dugout). Then he realized it was a fan and didn't. The entire dugout was looking at this @ss sitting behind me and telling him to STFU. I tipped my cap to Saveur, who later on had a little fun going back and forth with this guy. And the amazing part about it was that he insisted he was a Red Sox fan but had season tickets for the Bulls and didn't care about the prospects. I can understand that a little, but he was just being a total ass to these kids.
