Well this ought to be interesting. Couch finally makes it to AAA again -- for a playoff decider, and he hasn't pitched in almost 3 weeks.

This had to be the plan all along. Lull Durham into thinking Couch won't participate in the playoffs, then.....................spring him for the Championship Game! Brilliant!

So, I've never looked into the TV thing for ml games ... is there a way to pay for just this game, and stream it to my TV via my PS3? (Of course, maybe I shouldn't, as that would probably guarantee an insurmountable early lead for the Bulls.)

Some interesting stuff.
The IL championship hasn't been clinched at the winner's home field since 2007.
Kelly, the Bulls starter was the starter/winner in game 5 last year at Pawtucket.

Brentz with a 2 out RBI double, hard hit ground ball down the left field line. 1-0. Lavarnway now 9/19 in the series. Most have been hit hard but this one was seeing eye variety. Were not going to see many fastballs tonight, Kelly is similar to Couch but doesn't seem to have a sinker.
Swihart is not in the lineup. Announcer said he's on the DL, Spring activated. The passed ball yesterday hit him on the thumb, x-rays negative but swollen. Crossed up on the pitch.
Marrero with a nice defensive decision to get the lead runner followed by a rocket to the mound, stopped by Couch in a reflex move and thrown out. 1-0 after 1.
Still 1-0 after 2. Only one hard hit ball against Couch and that one should have been caught but Brown lost it in the lights and played it into a line drive single.
The AAA face-off game is Tuesday night and will be on NBC.

Since this is the last MiLB gameday thread of the year ... THANKS, JSINGER! Very much appreciated work you do bringing these to use every day ...

But thanks jsinger, hoping you have one more day's work. Castillo with a leadoff ground ruled double that would likely have been a triple if it didn't jump the fence. Bulls must have felt bad, they had him picked off second but he avoided the tag in a rundown and got to third. Scored on a De Jesus line drive sac fly.

You're assuming we are losing ? But thanks jsinger, hoping you have one more day's work. Huh? This is the last game, win or lose, right? The winner plays the winner of the Pacific Coast League Tuesday night. Exhibition game for bragging rights. PawSox left them loaded top 3rd (a bunch of good luck stuff). Still 2-0. 1-2-3 for Couch but all hit pretty hard. The only hit he's allowed is the one Brown lost in the lights. 2-0 after 3. LOL, Marrero and Kelly are friends (Az State teammates). You can see them commenting to each other after a lot of the pitches. So far Kelly has the upper hand but Marrero has taken him to full counts twice. Castillo roped a line drive double down the left field line. First pitch, something off speed. Kelly with 76 pitches thru 4. Couch only has 48. 1-2-3 for Couch. LOL, missed location totally on the last strike, Lavarnway had no hope of framing it but the ump got it right.

Runners LOB _23, __, 123, 1_3. I hope I'm not hallucinating when I remember that more often than not in games like this, you eventually do get a big inning, as opposed to ... umm, losing.

Missed it but Lavarnway with a leadoff HR. Now 10/21 in the series.
I'm watching the Bulls broadcast but listening to the PawSox radio team. Interesting that yesterday and today the announcer (I don't know his name) has referenced pitch framing.

Shortstop double pumped and that was all he needed. Cecchini picked off first after a walk. Nice move by Kelly, not sure what Garin was thinking there. 3-0 bottom of the fifth.

I want Swihart in Boston, a la Barnes, when this is over, just so he can catch a handful of games and give us some pitch-framing data. They can move Pedroia or Herrera to the 60-day DL.

I think he might have a future as a back-end-rotation starter, and maybe like him better than Diaz.

Diaz is more of a dominance pitcher type, maintains velocity deep into the games but needs a lot of work on the curve and slider. Only Rodriguez had a higher average velocity all year at Portland. Couch is command and control and features a slow sinker backed up by well located fringy crooked stuff. Agree that Couch could be a bottom of the rotation starter on a non contender. Jury is still out on Diaz, his curve and/or slider needs considerable improvement but shows flashes.

But you just gave a brilliant comparison! Just want to echo others in thanking you for these reports, evaluations, and insights. I think Diaz will be a better reliever than Couch will be a starter, but that may still make Couch a more valuable player and hence a better prospect. Of course, in our system, they're both afterthoughts (itself an amazing thought). Governor's Cup Probability: 88% ... 87% ... 86% going into the bottom of the 7th. ... 89% ...

I think next year will be the tell for Diaz, he was doing well until he ran out of gas but I also think that if he gets to where he could be, he's got a mid rotation ceiling. He throws pretty hard and throws a lot of strikes plus his change up is already close to a plus pitch. His difficulty is the mixing of the curve and slider mix which a lot of pitchers have issues dealing with. Johnson is the only pitcher I can think of that has mastered both while still at AA.
Castillo thrown out trying to steal a base last inning. Bulls catcher is impressive defensively and that's the second time I've seen him throw out Castillo.
Still 3-0 mid 7th.
Couch out of the game with 2 outs and a runner on first (walk). Cellestino coming in. The only hit allowed by Couch was the single lost in the lights.

Cup Probability, 91% ... BB, 90% ... Celestino gives up a 1B, 86% ... Betemit fans looking, 92%. ... 91% ... 93% (Garin 2B) ... 92% ...

WOW inside 1-2 slider by Cellestino to totally freeze Betemit with runners on 1st and 3rd. 3-0 after 7.
It should be noted that Couch hadn't pitched in 17 days.
I didn't see them but PawSox added a run on doubles by Cecchini and Brown. 4-2 middle of the eighth.
