I hope we keep Brentz. I think he's a Gomes at the league minimum. Lefty killer 4th OF.

Tanaka is going to need surgery, no doubt. Moreover, the Yanks may be starting to get a feel here for a good chunk of the next great Red Sox team. Add to that the budget they may be looking at just to be semi-competitive... There's s dark cloud hovering over the Bronx.

You know, Cecchini has really impressed me. i wouldn't be against giving him a shot next year to win the starting 3B job next year. Nice double off the wall

Sure is nice watching someone play at 3b who puts the ball in play for hits.

Castillo continues to impress me, if we get two great starting pitchers and improve the bullpen we will be great.

Announcers are pondering Jeter now quitting with his hit in the last AB. Funny how guys like to do that now. Used to not be that way. Sure, Williams. did, then refused to travel to NY for the last series of the season. I also remember Yaz got a hit in his 1st AB of the last game of '83, (seems like was a liner to RF), then came up 3 more times and ended up 1-4 as remember. No matter to him.
Why some guys have to get hits in last games does not matter.

98mph in the 6th inning and nearing pitch 70? I watch a lot of different teams. This is Josh Johnson numbers when he was healthy (rarely) early in his career.

It turns out the Yankee-Sox game is on a channel I didn't think to check. There a couple hundred channels - maybe more - on Dish-TV. Anyway, this game reminds me of the old saying "you are never as good as you look when you win," but I sure do like the look of this team.
This is only one game, but some things can be learned from it.
Cecchini's D seems much better than reported. He's made some good plays and he looks solid. I also like the way he handles the bat. I think he is the 3B next year, unless they trade for someone.
Castillo also has impressed me, and I was dubious. He is athletic. With Betts and Cespedes, next year's team is going to have a lot more speed.
Craig is going to have a hard time making the team next year.

This last few weeks, especially after Castillo's debut, have been easily the best baseball we've played this year. And not even about wins and losses, but the team has looked very good, playing competitive baseball which wasn't done in the AJ days.
Add to that a high pick and the future is indeed very bright methinks.

There is 97mph 4 times leading off the 7th inning for kelly. All over the 80 pitch limit. No question he can at least throw hard late in games. The other parts will be the question.

Farrell left Kelly in too long. Really no reason to do that. Kelly looked very good today.

In the 8th he threw almost all fastballs. Rivero hammered that. It's why I like him as the Pawtucket utility player, more power than the rest of the group, Gibson, Phillips, Herrera et al.

You may be right there. He has looked pretty decent, but they would have to make him some kind of special offer perhaps to entice him to hang around rather than leave as a MiLB FA again, or place him on the 40 man roster and don't see them doing that for him, Gibson, or Herrera over the winter. Think he could have the potential to be the #1 utility guy they call up next season if they can find a way to get him to hang around though, but if the FO sees this potential, we can be sure other MLB teams see this as well and may have a 40 man spot for him along with MLB $$$ right off.

I thought Kelly pitched well today. I can definitely see him in the rotation next season.
Sox finished 10 for 19 with RISP today. I like this team better than the team that started he season.

I love to the Sox give Cecchini and Brentz and shot next year at least invite to spring training and compete.Craig doesnt look like he is safe. This roster is very fluid. Also to keep in mind a lot of turnover next year as well with about 6 major contracts expiring or with options involved.

FWIW. Nathan Eovaldi must be emptying his container for the marlins today. He's gunning it at 97-98mph at the 70 pitch mark today also right now.
Another young stud the LAD let get away.

Farrell left Kelly in too long. Really no reason to do that. Kelly looked very good today. Farrell has done that multiple times this season, especially with Peavy and Buchholz.

With all the pitchers we have, why not let Kelly finish the 7th and go home? Put in some relievers for God's sake. Why risk an injury to Kelly with a huge lead like that, after the gas he threw. I'm sorry but sometimes Farrell is just stupid. Bad decision. At this time of year in this situation, use each game to build for the future. Are we trying to build Kelly's arm strength for the off season?
Castillo doesn't look like he needs to wear himself down in Arizona to me, and hasn't looked that way since the first week he started playing baseball again. Let him rest. Next year is a long season and center fielders wear out pretty fast. The potential for injury risk also is a factor. He can play. We get it. No need for Arizona.
I know it's a small sample size but I'd absolutely go with Cechinni next spring. He has actually looked good in the field, at least from the highlights I've seen ( I haven't seen any game action for weeks ). He seems to have good contact skills and feel comfortable in mlb. He hits Left handed which helps a lot and he probably runs better than almost any other normal 3rd baseman. He's cheap and we have Holt, Xander, Middlebrooks, Mookie and maybe even Castillo as potential back ups. Castillo actually looks pretty good in the infield from what I've seen, even at SS.
I grant that these guys are not facing normal pitching right now. It's pretty much AAAA level on average for the last couple weeks but Castillo, Cechinni, Betts, Bogaerts, even Vasquez look like mlb hitters. I think all of those guys are going to hit at least acceptably.
Given this year's overall performance and the probability that next year is still a growing /developing year to a degree, I have no problem seeing what we have still internally at 3rd and building some value there. It's not like the alternatives are all that exciting and they will not come cheap.

Given this year's overall performance and probability? Didn't this year show us what can happen when you have to rely too much on internal guys who aren't proven?
If the team goes with Cechinni next year without some serious outside competition based on turning it around for two months or so it would be embarrassing.
