We've got a thread for the AFL, so probably need one for the international leagues. (Public service announcement: you can follow the Sox in all of these leagues here all winter here) Venezuela starts playing tomorrow... and the rosters aren't even up yet. In fact, most of the Caribbean rosters aren't up on MLB's website (or lidom.com). All I've been able to track down are the rosters for two VZ teams (no huge names yet, although maybe Mujica qualifies?), Stefan Welch unsurprisingly playing in Australia (I wonder if they'll let McGrath pitch. My guess is no.), and the previously reported fact that Castillo will play in PR. Also likely that Vazquez and, if healthy, Ramos (def. needs the ABs) will play in PR. Jose Vinicio is apparently playing for los Leones in DR, so I'll need to add him. Margot was taken first in the DR league's draft (great photo here: www.naciondeportiva.com/nacion/es/2013/beisbol/10238/Conoce-a-Manuel-Margot-primer-pick-de-Toros-del-Este.htm, I guess he went down there between the end of the year and Instructs?) Any intel (Norberto, you're my boy here...) would be much appreciated.

The DR League will start Oct 17 I believe. As far as Red Sox guys I've seen that Keury De La Cruz has been playing in "exhibition" games for Las Aguilas. Maybe he'll get regular playing time this year.
MLB can put players on "extreme fatigue" list so they can't play from the list I saw the Red Sox have the following players on the list:
Eduardo Rodriguez Rubby De La Rosa
There are other ways for clubs to stop guys from playing so we'll see who ends up playing. Guys like Margot or Rijo might play sparingly unless the produce.

VZ started up yesterday. Interesting to note that Mario Martinez started in left field. Interesting only to me probably, but interesting.

In any case, WMB would rather "get healthy" (i.e. spend more time with Jenny) than play Winter Ball as the Sox asked him to.
Bye bye WMB, loved watching you play ... well only at Rogers Center but better than nothing.

Just remembered that we'd speculated that Bryce Brentz might go to the AFL - I'd forgotten that he played in the Dominican last year. I'd assume he goes back again to make up for his lost at-bats. Probably more appropriate competition too (although they absolutely ate him alive last year - in a figurative sense, not in a "Ryan Lavarnway getting an intestinal parasite in Venezuela that may have changed the trajectory of his career if you think about it" literal one).

He played for Escogido. Of course he struggled.

It seems perfectly reasonable that a player who has suffered significant injury the last two years might want a full offseason to get healthy.

He just got offered a good bonus and took it. Wasn't he a two sport star? This guy and Felix and two mysteries. Its funny the Sox keep hanging in with him but I agree this last one and he is gonna be part of a deal.

He "was going to punt at Texas A&M," which I'm beginning to kind of realize is something you say do that you can get a larger bonus deferred over five years, so no, not really.

Norb, would welcome any other info you have on players who might be playing for which teams, beyond what we've got on the F-W page right now (which is basically the draft results, plus some I've gleaned from exhibition recaps).

I have been trying to find more roster info to no avail. I guess we'll have to wait until the games start to find out.
I did see some teams announced their "importados" aka foreign players and I did not see any Red Sox.

But I still can't help but wonder where his head is. Maybe his agent is giving him done bad advise

No. It is never a fair statement to accuse someone of not trying without evidence. Criticize the skills all you want - lord knows I have when it comes to Middlebrooks - but criticizing the effort without cause is just gossip.

The DR winter League actually starts today with Los Toros vs Las Estrellas. Margot nor Rijo are in the line-up, I don't think they'll play much.

Rijo actually isn't even listed on Este's active roster. Margot is, as is Jose Valdez. Aneury Tavarez on the bench for las Estrellas.

Because players that young don't play often or very much at all in the Caribbean Leagues. They're more Double-to-Triple-A-ish in level, if you look at last year's stats, for example: soxprospects.com/fall-winter2013.htm

Yeah winter leagues are very competitive you rarely see guys who spent most of the season in Low-a play much.
Those other guys might be journey men here in the US but they offer more experience and now results, which is what matters.

Vinicio is starting for Los Leones. Also Corey Brown is starting but I think he is a free agent now.

Liga Paralela just got a lot more interesting: the Basabes and Victor Acosta have debuted in the past two days. Acosta went deep in his first game. Daniel Gonzalez, Yankory Pimentel, Isiaias Lucena and Alixon Suarez all also played in their first games.

Interesting development: Victor Acosta is playing center field in Venezuela. Could be an interesting way to get him AB's.
LP starting lineup right now is something like:
Carlos Tovar, SS Deiner Lopez, 3B Vic Acosta, CF David Sopilka, C/DH Darwin Pena, 1B Luis Alexander Basabe, RF Alixon Suarez, C/DH Luis Alejandro Basabe, 2B Raiwinson Lameda/Juan Hernandez, LF
Rotation: M. Alcantara/L. Ramos/C. Garcia/E. Martinez/J. Perez

Norb (or anyone else more up on their Español than I am), can you do me a solid and confirm whether this says Dayan Diaz is or isn't playing in Colombia this winter? www.tigres.lcbp.com.co/al-bate.html
