Series Thread Disclaimer: The SoxProspects Moderators will be somewhat liberal in policing the Red Sox "Series" Threads. Some of the Ground Rules are applied loosely in here, as we understand that there is a tendency to want to react (or overreact) to every play of a Sox game with one line reactionary posts. Those posts are okay in the Red Sox Series threads to a point - we certainly appreciate the passion. Just try not to overdo it, and try to maintain some semblance of reason. In addition, please don't let those type of posts spill over to other more substantive threads, where they may be deleted. -The Management

Wow the Cards have the Dodgers number. I love the fact Crawford made the last out.
I rooting for the Royals and if not them then the O's.

My Cardinal fan/friends are insufferable. They taunted me that Kershaw was a choke artist (and compared him to Pedro). Insufferable is probably too kind. I wanted the Nats to advance, but they didn't deserve it. Leaves me with the Giants in the NL. Don't know any baseball fans from the Bay area, so I guess I'm safe. KC versus the O's. Hmmmm. I'll go with the Royals. Memories of drunk Oriole fans taunting Big Papi about PED's and the spectra of a manager that I have a visceral dislike for trump my allegiance to the Ripken's. Nice to see new teams and faces in the ALCS, not too interested in the reappearance of the same old teams for the NLCS. In the end it's just not the same without the Red Sox in the final four.

This feel like a mid-80s set of series to anyone else?

I'm torn between the Royals (because Ned Yost is awesome) and the Giants (because McCovey Chronicles is the best fan blog in any sport). Should be fantastic.

Hopefully they both win and get to watch two great teams battle it out in the world series...i'm just glad the dodgers lost but preferably i'd like to see KC or SF take it (gotta root for peavy).

Damn straight, Peavy is a class act and by all means look like a great dude. It's great to see him having success in San Francisco and he still looks like a bad version of Jeremy Renner, which is awesome by itself.

This feel like a mid-80s set of series to anyone else? In a way it does, although it is strange because when you think of the Orioles and Royals heyday, you think of the 1970s and early to mid 1980s (although the O's were plenty good in the 2nd half of the 1960s). Both teams won a last gasp World Series and disappeared off the map for a long time, yet even though they were very experienced post-season teams, they never matched up in the post-season. Baltimore usually got everybody but KC and KC usually ran into the Yankees. The Giants/Cards series was a good 1987 Series, but to me this is a 2010s decade series as they are the head of the class for the NL in the 2010s and they have been alternating pennants with the Giants taking 2010 and 2012 and the Cards taking 2011 and 2013. I guess that means it's the Giants' turn to win even though I think it will wind up being the Cards beating the O's in the Series.

Wait a minute, the Royals are a "great team" now? This is a team that outscored it's opponents by 27 runs in the regular season playing in a very soft division.

That top of the rotation is very solid, the bullpen is historic, and the offense has some great (albeit under performing) talent, which bodes well for the short burst of post-season baseball. They remind me of the 2012 Giants and the 2006 Cardinals, and we all saw how that turned out.

You're calling them great based on results only.

He said "Hopefully they both win and get to watch two great teams battle it out in the world series." He's not trying to have a discussion about how historically good the Royals are. Lets ease up a bit.

This is actually really, really cool: www.foxsports.com/mlb/just-a-bit-outside/baseball-joe/blog/the-power-of-jabo-100114 FOX Sports 1 is going to do a simultaneous alternate broadcast of game 1 of the NLCS. Instead of the vortex of terribleness that is Joe Buck, Harold Reynolds, and Tom Verducci, this alternate broadcast is going to feature Kevin Burkhardt, Gabe Kapler (!!!), C.J. Nitkowski, and Rob Neyer breaking down the game from a more in-depth perspective. They're going to feature more integration of sabermetric principles, both by using advanced stats to analyze the game but also highlighting stuff like pitch-framing and optimal bullpen use. Really exciting stuff. ADD: here's Neyer elaborating on it: www.fangraphs.com/blogs/discussing-the-nlcs-powered-by-jabo-with-rob-neyer/
