Xanders future is at Fist Base. But for this year he is a SS. I like this one as well. Well, he could be right. I can see Xander donning a 1b mitt sometimes around 2030, after he had already moved off of SS around 2023 to play 3b.

I don't think it is a stretch to believe that his extra work with the glove has slowed down his offensive development a bit. I really think he is going to be everything we hoped for by start of 2017.

Holt is right below Pedroia too.

Holt is right below Pedroia too. I'm using bWAR more often now, since it uses DRS instead of UZR, and DRS has been continually refined since its introduction, while I don't think MGL has touched UZR ever. I have much more faith in DRS. Mookie's 23, Holt 25, Pedroia 51, Xander 54 (and tops among AL SS). Sadly, the next guy is Victorino. Mookie, Brockstar, and X should all be All-Stars. We'll see if that happens.

He won't be a shortstop in the MLB so I don't think the two are correlated. Neither will Xander. Funny how incredibly inaccurate X made this statement with a single season of dedicated defensive work.

I moved the defensive metrics discussion to its own thread in the off-topic forum.

The biggest difference to me is how much his footwork and body positioning have improved on balls to his glove side. Just a year ago, any time he went to his left was an adventure - whether to field a ball or on the 4-6-3 relay.
It looks like he really is a shortstop and I couldn't be happier to have been wrong.

I think this topic needs revisiting. DRS and UZR don't quite agree on Xander's defensive struggles: Xander now has -12 DRS, which would be the lowest mark in baseball if not for Brad Miller and Alexei Ramirez. His UZR/150 is -0.6, which is middle of the pack. From what I've personally seen in games, his defense is definitely worse than last season. If you compare Inside Edge's numbers for 2015 and 2016, it's apparent that the regression has come in the 'Likely' and 'Routine' buckets (60-100%). What could this be? Lack of focus? Physical problems? Worse defense from 1B on low throws?

He just needs to catch a second wind in all phases of the game. He's slumping in general right now.

He will finish the year playing his best ball of the season.
