The difference between the Red Sox minor league this year than the others is that we have about 6 to 10 kids pretty close to helping at various degress. The difference is this time they have a 2nd wave that has very good talent also. We really never had that The 2nd wave is Swihart and Owens and Cecchini. I also feel maybe WMB could slide over to 1B and when Cecchini is ready take 3B. It's just an idea to keep our own talent. Much of WMB's value consists in his being able to play 3b and probably a very good 3b. He is unlikely to be strong enough on offense to be valuable at 1b. If you want to move him for Cecchini, you move him to a team that needs a 3b.

"Depending on what happens with Jacoby Ellsbury, Bradley could be Boston’s center- or left-fielder of the future."
"Defensively, he has the potential to be a plus defender thanks to his range, arm and instincts"
Hulet complements Bradleys defense, including his arm, but then mentions that he could be their future CF or LF.
Why doesn't anyone seem to mention Bradley as a future RF? I think he should do quite well in RF at Fenway (better than pulling a Crawford and sticking his range in LF) - unless I'm missing something.

Jackie Bradley certainly has a right fielder's arm and I think he would be a very good right fielder so it is a possibility in the short-term if needed. I see the position as center field all the way though and feel he's going to be an exceptional one. Very comfortable saying that the defense will be well above-average to elite and he's the long-term center fielder of the future. If him and Jacoby Ellsbury were both on the roster together, and both in regular roles because of need or whatever, Bradley is easily the better center fielder. He's the better corner outfielder too. It would really come down to need because Bradley could play any of the three slots at a high level.

We really never had that Appartenly you don't remember the previous "killer b's": Buccholz, Bard and Bowden, or Masterson, Kalish, Reddick, Lars Anderson, Bubba Bell, Luis Exposito, Casey Kelly, Nick Hagadone, Oscar Tejeda, Stolmy Pimentel, Drake Britton, Anthony Rizzo or even Will Middlebrooks. At one time or another, all of those guys were part of the "second wave" from the first wave of Pedroia, Lester, Youkilis, Ellsbury, etc. The point being that there is an extremely high attrition rate with prospects, and sometimes they're delayed for several years. This group's "second wave" could easily falter, too. * Bold = Major Leagues

EDIT: Scratch that. Getting a bit off topic, starting a new thread related to outfield discussion.

From 2014-2018, if money were no object, just on-field performance, would you take Ellsbury or Bradley? If money were no object I would take both and have ells play left field with his weak throwing arm and bradley in center. Sent from my SGH-T999 using proboards

This has been discussed previously and I think most people felt (or at least it was my conclusion) that if both played on the same Red Sox team, Bradley in right and Ellsbury in center would make the most sense since right at Fenway is almost as large as center, and Bradley has the cannon arm. Of course, I could see Ells in left and Bradley in center also working if they had another above-average fielding right fielder with a strong arm.
For instance if Brentz developed into a starting-level outfielder and Ells re-signed (I know it's unlikely), IMO the best alignment would be Brentz in LF, Ellsbury in CF, and Bradley in RF. Even though Brentz has a strong arm, I think the improved range in center and right would be more useful at Fenway.

C Blake Swihart 1B Jerry Sands2B Dustin Pedroia 3B Will Middlebrooks SS Xander Bogaerts LF Jacoby Ellsbury CF Jackie Bradley Jr. RF Bryce Brentz DH Garin Cecchini SP Jon Lester SP Clay Buchholz SP Matt Barnes SP Allen Webster SP Henry Owens Closer Rubby de la Rosa Jerry Sands at 1B is the only thing I found interesting. Obviously they can't fill in a free agent acquisition, but I wonder if BA thinks his bat will play at the ML level. Except for Sands , If we can add in my boy Kukuk to the pitching staff. I swear I would pitch a pant's tent!!
