Alex Speier reports Alex Wilson is one of the pitchers going to the Tigers Good he's terrible Great freeing up another spot on the 40 man. He had little value other than some depth.

Speier says "the other is a lower-levels pitcher." This is great news, a very good deal overall. Turned a half season of Lester into Porcello and some home runs. I'm guessing this piece is Stankewicz.

I like this deal a lot, if the Sox can some anchor the rotation with one of Cueto, Shields, Zimmerman or Hamels I will be ok....still need some bull pen depth though?? I think Barnes is going to be a bull pen piece this year??

Seeing as Porcello nets us a supplemental pick, I would think maybe a higher ceiling kid Looking through list, not a lot of candidates - Mercedes, Light, Stankiewicz, Callahan, Buttrey, Younginger, or one of the GCL DSL kids DeJesus, Diaz, Jimenez. Question - probably not a "throw in" for this trade, but is Trey Ball a possible chit for a more valuable piece?

I still hope we get 2 more top rotation guys. I would love a rotation where Porcello is my #3.

It won't be it most likely will be a no name pitcher or maybe is Ranaudo either way great trade for the sox 1- Wright2- Rich Porcello 3- Joe Kelly 4- Wade Miley 5- Clay Buchholz Nice rotation, wonder who they fill the 1. spot with most likely Sheilds or Hamels. Fixed..... Signed friend of the man with the broad sword I know this is a joke, but you earlier claimed I projected him as a top of the rotation starter (or something even less in touch with reality), when what I've actually said is that he has clear #3 upside, and has ace upside only in the remote sense that any knuckleballer does because of their unpredictability. So if I get to be the man with the broadsword, you get to to be the man who's periodically skipping his meds ... (And it's not a broadsword, it's Andúril, Flame of he West! Stephen Colbert would mock you for that error.)

The way the rotation is setting up, the sox really banking on Xander's defensive development at SS? Or is he moved for an ace and they go with a defensive stud there because of the line-up is so good??

Alex Speier reports Alex Wilson is one of the pitchers going to the Tigers He's been my leading candidate to free up a 40-man spot. No problem with him being in the deal at all.

Or is he moved for an ace and they go with a defensive stud there because of the line-up is so good?? He's doing an intensive off-season program to quicken his first step. Those programs are known to work. He's got a great work ethic. I think they're projecting him as MLB average and hence not part of a drain on a groundball staff.

And can we stop talking about trading Buchholz? You don't trade a guy who projects to have somewhere between 0 and 8 bWAR, throw a dart, when you've got many alternatives if you hit the former number. If he were on another team, we'd be clamoring to add him as a buy low, get a super-ace for cheap candidate. Only the frustration of watching him first-hand is driving the urge to dump him. (Same thing for Victorino, BTW.)

I think they want to give one spot to a guy who has major league options so they aren't stuck if he doesn't work out. Given that they have a gaggle of starting pitching prospects that are at least ready for AAA that seems like a wise idea. And take your meds....when I skip mine I make even less sense than I normally do Already missing Colbert.

I'd love to see buckholtz flipped to Cincinnati as part of a bigger deal getting the Sox Cueto and more. Porcello was just auto spell corrected to porcelain on the iPad ....hope that's not predictive!

That's why it's great to have 4 or 5 viable starting candidates stashed in AAA (I haven't given up on Escobar). I think Wright's going to be the long man and spot starter. Great role for him.

Heyman says it's a Left Handed Pitcher, Speier says it's a low level guy.. So putting the two together options are (Not including Trey Bal) McGrath, Jimenez, Speier, DeJesus, Diaz,
