... Pitching wins championships ... Have you done some research on this, or are you just taking Harold Reynolds' word for it?

It should also be note that these moves MAY have helped build your pen without paying some of the crazy prices for relievers. If they aren't traded, Kelly and Workman could be awesome in relief, no?

What are your thoughts on the sudden transformation to this staff being so groundball-heavyy?
Spitballing, is it possible they trade Bogaerts and acquire a more defensively-apt SS until Marrero is ready (perhaps by season end).
All these quick acquisitions of pitchers makes it seem like Red Sox were not really interested in Lester much at all.

I love this move. It is possible the Miley deal is dead; its also possible that the Red Sox and D'Backs are working with a 3rd team to flip Miley immediately.
Depth is depth is depth.
Also, Masterson is a great guy. Met him at Boston Common a few years ago. Welcome back!

The Red Sox just acquired/signed three capable starters for almost the exact AAV the Cubs will pay Lester on an annual basis ($26M v $25.8M).

It had been reported previously tha the Red Sox offered him a 1-year deal. Thank you, just wanted to confirm.

I really doubt that the Miley deal fell through. Just looking like we're stockpiling assets with control and are Ina perfect position to flip a couple for a tip of rotation starter.

This is a no-brainer. If he doesn't work out, not much is lost. If he does, we could get a comp pick while getting his contributions for a year.

What are your thoughts on the sudden transformation to this staff being so groundball-heavyy? Spitballing, is it possible they trade Bogaerts and acquire a more defensively-apt SS until Marrero is ready (perhaps by season end). Keep in mind that Bogaerts has been training with Pedroia at Athletes Performance Institute in Arizona this offseason. My guess is they have been working with his on his first step explosiveness and his flexibility. I would not be surprised to see significant improvement in his SS defense this year.

I doubt they deal Bogaerts yet but I suggested elsewhere they HAVE to now internally value Marrero higher now, in case Bogaerts doesn't stay at short

Someone else notes on twitter, this could also help give us leverage in negotiations.

Are you saying Xander is going to be in the best shape of his life? Sorry, just find it hard to buy into the 'trained really hard in the offseason and thus will be much better this year' trope. If it were that easy, why didn't Derek Jeter ever improve his quickness? I think Bogaerts is fine defensively, but it seems something worth exploring whether you are a better team with Elite Defensive SS plus whatever Xander fetches in trade or Xander at SS. Of course the two variables (who is this mysterious elite SS and what does he cost to acquire, and what can you get for Bogaerts?) are impossible to project so I'm just asking nonsense hypotheticals.

I wonder if he's learning the hop before the pitch is thrown thing? How cool would it be if Pedey got the whole infield doing that? Can Pandas hop?

I'll just hope Ramirez doesn't take his nasty double clutch habit before throwing the ball from SS to LF. He hasn't managed to get rid of it completely during his entire MLB career.

This is a great signing, to me it seems that we'll be moving a pitcher at some point. I think this could be the writing on the wall as Buchholz could be sent elsewhere. (I recall reading some NL teams were interested). Two additions with ground ball type repertoire's. AT least leaves the opening for competition. I'd rather have Masterson for a year than McCarthy for 4 years.

So if he says Bogaerts is training with a defensive guru this off season in preparation for next year at SS and said guru has won multiple Gold Gloves as a MLB infielder would buy into that. Isn't that essentially what this is? It goes beyond just physical workouts I imagine.

I deleted a bunch of back and forth nonsense. If you cannot handle that others may disagree with you without throwing a fit, you might want to steer clear of the Internet in general. This goes for all parties. No internet AND no parties? You're no fun. Am I the only one comfortable with this rotation as is, assuming we have a great lineup (we do) and a good bullpen (kind of).

Hanley, Porcello, and Masterson? I feel like we're back in the EZBoard days again.
