And because we're talking about lefthanded/righthanded stuff, a little known fact: Pablo Sandoval is a natural lefty and decided to throw righty as a 9 year old because he wanted to play shortstop. And Edwardo Rodriguez is a natural righty. He changed as a kid when he broke his right arm.

Brooks Robinson was left-handed in life but threw a ball right-handed. Means the glove-hand is actually the dominant hand. "It helped me get my glove in the right spot," Robinson admitted. "I eat left-handed. I write left-handed. Ping-pong, tennis, shoot a rifle left-handed. So I do everything [left-handed] except play baseball. Threw right and hit right. "So it's sort of strange, but it certainly helped me fielding." www.pennlive.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/09/post_359.html

People are going to try to read all sorts of things into this, but why wouldn't the Phillies be sending their top evaluators to Red Sox camp at this point? It doesn't mean anything is imminent or that anything has changed.

So, in the last week or so, I've learned that Xander is going to be good defensively, Buchholz is healthy and focused, Mujica was actually hurt at the beginning of last year, Allen Craig is back to hitting the way he hit 2012 ... spring training!! Some things I'll be watching for during spring training in a serious way: Bogaerts range, Mitchell Boggs velocity, Pedroia turning on inside pitches, Castillo's approach & bat speed, Craig's power, Hanley's defense in left, JBJ's swing Some things I'll be watching for during spring training in a non-serious way: which rookie or NRI pitcher makes everyone excited, what spring training offensive performance does everyone overreact to (positive and negative divisions), how many times David Ortiz says he's "just getting his timing down/work in" One early impression: this team is really a fun team, with a fun collection of players.

Anyone know of a way I can watch and or listen to this game today? Pretty sure it's only on WEEI, not sure if you need MLB.TV to listen.

Baseball Prospectus ?@baseballpro Feb 5 Coming soon: BP Premium and Super Premium subscribers will receive a code for a 20% discount for MLB TV! -- I've been waiting to hear of an update on this deal before renewing both my MLB.TV and BP subscriptions. But the article linked in that tweet has since been taken down. Anyone know what the deal is there? Kind of pissed I can't stream the game right now.

Henry Ramos with the first Red Sox RBI of the season. LOL, Joe C. described him as a left hand batter. (Switch hitter) Rodriguez with a fast inning, two groundouts and a 3 pitch K. All the pitchers doing well so far, 1-0 after 6. All of the starters are out of the game. A lot of depth out there now (several out of position). Ben had some good things to say about the PawSox rotation.Same description of Rodriguez as Farrell. 3 solid pitches, throws strikes.

I still can't believe how big Ramirez's arms are. They look like legs...insane. No wonder he struggled at SS, he's huge.

Inexcusable performance by the offense today. Seriously, how could guys that have only been there a week and not faced live pitching in months not rake immediately? Bring back Bobby Valentine to right the ship.
