I haven't seen a thread for this year yet. Lots of talk about the new baseballs being used this year. The old ones had higher seams, new ones are closer to those being used in the minors and pros. I didn't know about the smaller balls being used in Japan until a year ago. I also didn't know about this. Why not use the same balls? Tough enough having to scout hitters using metal bats.

This year really shows what a disadvantage college players from the North East face. My Nephew plays for UMASS Dartmouth. They did get a ten day trip to Florida(non scholarship players had to pay over 1000 dollars) but getting practice and games at home has been tough. Never a good sign to have plow trucks clearing your diamond.

Never a good sign to have plow trucks clearing your diamond. This has been significantly decreased recently by imposition of the universal start date though. It used to be that northeast teams would get crushed for three weeks, playing their first games against teams that had been practicing outside for a month longer, or more. Now you see more teams winning in those first weeks.

Good point Chris.
Still no home games for UMASS D. They hope to play Sunday at Plymouth North High's field. They have Turf. Double headed for Monday starting at 9 am, yikes. They are getting a turf field for home next year.

Watching Benintendi play today. Even though he is small, take a look at his wrists and forearms. They look like they belong to a much bigger guy.

Benintendi has a strong base, too. He generates a lot of power from his well-filled-out lower half. I tend to think the power is legit, at least in terms of it being average-to-plus.

I'll have to watch him more. I didn't notice the lower half. Looked like a left handed Mookie using hands , wrists, to clear out the inside pitch. Did show good explosion from his legs on the first few steps on his steal. Zero to full go in 3 steps.

Holding out on judging the power until we see him hitting with wood, but I really liked what I saw from him today. Clearly the best player on the field.
EDIT: Added the word "hitting" before my post became someone's sig.

Back to Benny Baseball, I run into a few videos of him in HS, The Arkansas coaching staff have done a great job with his mechanics. He also have a Plus-Plus bat flip tool, love the swag!

Ugh if your an SEC fan. Arkansas, LSU and quite possibly Vanderbilt into the losers bracket. That would be some game between LSU and Vanderbilt if it happens with the loser going home.

Arkansas plays Miami at 3p EST ON ESPN2. More Benny Ball!! Vandy and C.S. Fullerton are finishing up a suspended game from last night first. Arkansas and Miami will start about one hour after they finish.

2014 30th round pick Jeren Kendall. Not that he was signable at that point. Since 2012 the Red Sox have done well at selecting upside HS players that unfortunately they can't sign and have shown well in college. Bregman and Fulmer in 2012, Sheffield, Boldt and Thaiss in 2013, Jeren Kendall in 2014. This is probably true of all teams though because I honestly don't follow the ones that got away for other teams.

Miami just intentionally walked Benintendi in the 9th inning with the go ahead run on 2B. That's some respect right there.
Edit: and Arkansas just eliminated. Benintendi should be headed to Lowell or Greenville soon.

Tuned in to watch Benintendi and Spoon play and ended up developing a man crush on Jacob Heyward, Miami U sophomore. Moved into the lineup through the year hitting from the nine spot and played well down the stretch. And of course it doesn't hurt your brother is the one and only Jason Heyward. He will be a follow of mine next season heading towards the draft.
