I'm going to go with Henry Ramos on the offensive side. I saw him play in Portland last year and he's already got a big league body. He looked like he was actually breaking out last year before he got injured. Here is to hoping he picks up where he left off.
On the pitching side I like Karsten Whitson. He might never come close to reaching his potential as we all know how injuries can drag prospects down, but if he's healthy and can stay healthy and progress....he could really jump up in the rankings.

I'm buying low on Simon Mercedes and Jamie Callahan-- post-hype sleepers who could still turn themselves into legit major leaguers (though probably both as relievers-- albeit so-called "power arms"). Also, two position player names: Mauricio Dubon (in love with his contact ability, which was one of the lowest in the minors; he also rates well by Chris Mitchell's KATOH) and Jordan Weems (random surprise promotion followed by good performance last year, has always had good tools).

I was going to go with Dobun myself but felt like I needed to pick one. Hit tool is arguably the most important tool so if he can make some improvements in his approach then his bat could really help push him up if he's got good contact ability.

Hit tool is arguably the most important tool so if he can make some improvements in his approach then his bat could really help push him up if he's got good contact ability. Agreed. One thing I was thinking about-- his low strikeout rate might be slightly exaggerated by how aggressive he is. I saw him in Lowell and he was swinging at everything, and when you do that and have good enough bat control, it can be hard to actually rack up the three strikes needed for a K. The good news is that he's sustaining elite strikeout rates despite swinging at a lot of bad pitches (unlike, say, Vinicio, who is similarly aggressive but has worse contact skills). The somewhat bad news is that his strikeout rate may paradoxically increase as his plate discipline improves since he'll be going deeper into counts more often. That should be balanced out somewhat by a higher BABIP/ISO (if he's swinging more at good pitches to hit, he'll make better contact), but I want to suggest that a slightly higher K rate is not necessarily a bad thing if it's accompanied by more walks and better contact. ADD: an example of a guy who needed to strike out more: Che-Hsuan Lin. He always had great contact rates, but only because he had a very defensive swing that created a lot of soft ground balls. ADD2: of course, Lin's problem was being too passive, while Dubon's is being too aggressive, so that's a flawed comp.

Going to go out on a limb because if he's straightened out his delivery Stankiewicz. My second choice is Ty Buttrey who is still very young with a lot of upside. We'll see just going with someone who's not being mentioned. If Henry Ramos can stay healthy, I think he could easily out perform at least Bryce Brentz.

I really think Mercedes can break out in a big way this season. I remember last summer someone from BA - I think it was Josh Norris - had glowing reviews on Mercedes. A fastball that can touch 100 and a potential plus slider to go along with a CH & CB. Pretty descent 50.5 GB% & 12.4 LD% to go along with a substantial FIP/ERA gap. If he can improve his command and progress his CH & CB, Mercedes will shoot up prospect lists. That seems unlikely though. Rather, Mercedes will probably end up in the bullpen where he can by dynamic. Obviously not saying he's Dellin Betances, but he does have a FB touching 100 to go along with a plus SL. If everything clicks, Simon Mercedes looks to have the profile of a future closer.

Seconded. Normally, I'd agree with keeping people as starters for as long as you can, but in his case he there's late inning potential and such a long list of improvement needed to start. Considering that he isn't all too young, moving him to the bullpen makes sense to me. Best case scenario he dominates in relief and he's on the fast track to the majors. I think Pat Light's leash is also getting shorter in a similar respect.

On the offensive side I'm personally very excited to watch Dubon's development this year, elite contact rates and a plus glove at one of the most important positions on the diamond. If he can improve his approach (admittedly a big "if") I could see him in our top 15 next year. As far as pitchers go, Cosart has the makings of a power pitcher that could dominate the lower minors if he can incorporate his lower body into his pitching motion and improve his command obviously, but the potential is there.

I don't see how Doubon is going to find much playing time at Greenville until people start moving up the chain. We'll of course have to wait and see how the Greenville/XST assignments work out but, I'm in the camp that thinks Guerra will start the year at Greenville not XST.
ADD: It should be noted that down the stretch and throughout the GCL playoffs, Guerra not Devers or Chavis was the every day position player. Guerra at SS with Devers and Chavis playing 3B/DH. The Chavis at SS time ended relatively early in the season, not long after Devers arrived..

Interesting sidenote, Cosart's brother is currently under investigation regarding gambling. It's about some tweets and there's a chance his twitter account was hacked. There's also a chance that the tweets didn't involve baseball. Not great timing for Pete Rose. espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/12557299/miami-marlins-jarred-cosart-target-mlb-gambling-probe

After reading today's story on Karston Whitson here - news.soxprospects.com/2015/03/karsten-whitson-close-to-his-old-self.html I'll go with him for a breakout. On the offensive side, I like one or both of Tyler Hill and Trenton Kemp to break through. Both young and very athletic outfielders. If one or both can show signs of a decent approach and good contact skills, there's a ton of potential there.

Very intriguing prospect even if its just as likely he breaks out as gets derailed again. I also am hoping for a solid developmental year from Josh Ockimey on the offensive side.

I'll note that Whitson's scouting report was updated last night, as were Moncada, Aybar, and McAvoy.

What a terrific salvage job he's done on his career. Is it too much to hope he'll keep on improving his WHIP at each level? Could top 100 innings as a reliever this year...
