While his defenders have given him no help, let's not forget Zimmermann's complete inability to miss bats.

A Papi homer would make Zimmerman's line very close to Buchholz recent line.

While his defenders have given him no help, let's not forget Zimmermann's complete inability to miss bats. Or Sandoval's butt for that matter.

Could somebody give a poor guy with only gameday access some insight? Were these hits legit or bad defense? Two balls fell in the OF with outfielders just standing there unable to see the ball, or just not communicating with their teammate. And Mookie hit a chopper to third that bounced off the thirdbaseman's glove and rolled through the SS legs. May have been a hit regardless, but a makeable play for sure.

While his defenders have given him no help, let's not forget Zimmermann's complete inability to miss bats. Yeah before last year he struggled to miss bats consistently. A better version of Eovaldi. I said this I his trade thread, but I think he's a glorified 3rd starter. I hope we don't throw big money his way in FA if his K/9 regresses back to its former form.

I'm about ready for Xander to move ahead of Victorino in the lineup.

Great to see Sandy Leon having a good day at the plate. Any offense he can provide is pure gravy.

Gotta believe this is better live than the graphics I'm seeing on "Gameday."

Two nice defensive plays in a row. The fact that the Red Sox and the Nationals both have one error tells you everything you need to know about that statistic.

Victorino is just pathetic at the plate now.
I'll always appreciate what he brought to Boston in 2013, but he's done. Gotta move on from this guy soon.

Here is a nice little fun fact: As of the writing of this, and including today's ABs, Betts is hitting for as high of an average on fly balls as he is on line drives with a .200 average in each (note that this is 2-10 on fly balls with 2 HR vs 1-5 with 1 2B so he has a much better slugging and ISO on fly balls but a much better BABIP on liners at .200 compared to zero). Does not mean much, but I found it interesting that his batting average on line drives is so low right now and it makes me even more optimistic about his immediate future as that is a relatively stable statistic over large numbers of ABs (looking at the careers of players on the Sox- I am too busy to do a proper analysis right now- it appears to almost always settle at between .600 and .800 over a full seasons worth of at bats [note that it has more variance the less a player hits line drives, but over a large enough sample appears to almost always end up in or just outside this range]).

I wonder whether Koji will pitch the 9th. Might be nice to get him some MLB action with slightly lower leverage to get back in the swing of things.

Victorino looks cooked...hopefully Rusney can stay healthy and help out soon.
In totally non-surprising news, Mookie Betts is amazing.

I don't like waisting some Tazawa innings in a blowout game! Yeah it's kinda stupid. Koji would have made some sense but this is just Farrell going "oh hey let's check who didn't pitch yesterday" without any further thought put into it.
