On Kelly's new (old) slider, which, if the first game was a reflection of its true potential and not just a team caught unawares, could be a helluva pitch for him: m.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/rob-bradford/2015/04/16/how-perhaps-red-sox-most-important-pitcher-haADD: one plus offspeed pitch could be huge for Kelly. His sinker has always been good enough to get lots of ground balls, but it's never been a swing and miss pitch. If he adds a swing and miss slider, he could really start racking up the strikeouts and blowing past the back-of-the-rotation projection that his track record suggests.

Two pitchers coming off of appearances where each allowed only one hit. Something's gotta give.

I hate when the Sox play the O's. That lineup is so tough and they always seem to make Chen look like Koufax. I would be quite content at this point with a split.

He's white hot. They have lost; Nelson Cruz, Nick Markakis and Weiters is injured. Machado hasn't hit his stride 5/31 yet. A lot more manageable than it has been.

Two pitchers coming off of appearances where each allowed only one hit. Something's gotta give. Sure. Mostly because hits are a statistic that a pitcher has very little control over. The only pitcher statistics I ever look at for a single game are K and BB. (Well and velocity, if you consider that a statistic.)

Great, 7 straight blackout games for me. /sigh Hey there's an easy way to get around the blackouts... just move to Europe! (Oh damn, they're going to ban me from the forum now aren't they?)

Geez guys there are many places that stream games online. If you don't mind watching something that looks about as good as a game on WSBK channel 38 on a 13 inch black and white tv in 1978. I'm just pissed that I could drive 2 hours down the highway, pull over on the side of the road and watch the game on my phone.

Not going to get too excited until he shows some consistency. It's not so much the consistency, this is about a new pitch that goes perfectly with his other pitches. Obviously he (and everyone else) needs to show consistency. The bigger deal is how will the hitters adjust now that they know he has it. They didn't adjust much in that first game.

Listen on WBAL 1090 and hear the Sox from a different perspective. (Baseball is perfectly suited for the radio, especially if the signal fades in and out all night.)

I love baseball on the radio, get MLB at bat $20 a year no blackouts.
I loved the WSBK channel 38 reference although I didn't get that channel until 1980 when we got cable.

“@alexspeier: Hanley Ramirez hit a liner so hard in batting practice that it drilled a hole in padded wall in CF, above 379 foot marker. Never seen that.”

“@alexspeier: Hanley Ramirez hit a liner so hard in batting practice that it drilled a hole in padded wall in CF, above 379 foot marker. Never seen that.” Back in the day when the wall was covered with tin Jimmy Foxx drove a liner that moved the wall back 2.63 inches. Nostalgia: the art of remembering things as better than they really were.

Three sliders in his first seven pitches. Encouraging that he trusts it versus lefties.

Ubaldo Jimenez might be one of Joe Kelly's toughest competitors in the Cy Young race.

LOL Hanley playing the monster.
If memory serves me Manny was pretty legit at playing the bounce off the monster with a quick snap throw to second.
