Travis may end up being a nice player.
Kelly loves alternating between looking great then terrible. Bipolar.
Home run then two easy Ks. Struck out 5 of his last 6 batters though.

Jose Bautista just acted like that's the first time he's seen a curve

Evaluating pitchers on their BABIP and clustering luck in a 3 game sample is stupid. Evaluating them by their BABIP in a 1 inning sample is tremendously stupid. Oh yes, because each pitcher has a long track record of success, yes? Masterson is clearly cooked, Buchholz is Jackal and Hyde, Milley is coming off a mediocre season in the NL, Kelly was mediocre last season, and Porcello has had exactly 1 year of success. I like the chances of Porcello and Kelly turning it around to be at least useful back of the rotation pieces, but if you're watching the games, luck doesn't make you incapable of finding the strike zone against an inept offense like Kelly did last week. They're in last place in every pitching category and everyone knew coming into the season that the rotation was a question. Now all they've done was make it look worse than anyone initially thought. Not one guy has stepped up to stop the bleeding. Fun fact: Masterson, Kelly and Buchholz all have a FIP of about 3.50 or lower. Miley and Porcello are the exception, but thanks to a couple of poor starts. I'd wait until May to turn on the red alert.

Before today the Red Sox have given up the most runs in baseball with 102.

11th in the majors in K% 19th in the majors in BB% 14th in the majors in xFIP 15th in the majors in SIERA 19th in the majors in GB% 18th in the majors in Z-Contact% 18th in the majors in SwSrk% You do realize there are 30 teams in the majors, right? I'm sorry, I meant AL. I spoke too soon. Those numbers are really great though if you're competing for a playoff berth. The Red Sox are 4th in the AL in K%. Great point you made there.

Bad eye there. Takes a hittable pitch for strike 2 then swings at a pitch way inside and misses. He went up there looking for a walk then bailed on his patient approach when he got a 2nd strike.

Most runs surrendered. Worst ERA, worst BAA with RISP, but hey, they k fairly well, so, they're pretty good. Masterson may have a relatively low FIP, but he's going to get shelled as the season wears on. His stuff is clearly deminished.

Most runs surrendered. Worst ERA, worst BAA with RISP, Oh that's "every statistical category", is it? No, it's just your favourite pieces of trivia.

How much money will we then have to spend?? Porcello (Not An Ace) will right himself to a degree and Buch (Not An Ace) will be OK. I like Kelly (Not An Ace) longer term. Great arm. Miley and Masterson (our M & M boys) are not going to do it. Maybe Rodriguez can help and Johnson can be a better version of Miley. ..(but please explore trades and cut losses). IMO, our bullpen is just as much a problem...exacerbated by our likely over-dependence on very sub-par quality. The idea that a team can throw ---- at the wall and build a bullpen may be possible but we are not good at it. The silver lining about failure is that is exposes shortcomings from which to learn.

Yeah, I'm very salty because I'm tired of this team losing. Had a lot of faith just get thrown right oit the window. I have no expectations for this team now. I'd love it if they made me eat crow, but I just don't see it.

In other words, had one single game swung in their favor they'd be the 89 win team everyone thought they'd be. If two games swung in there favor they'd be on a 97 win pace. Chill. Out.

It's a nice thought, but how many games did the Sox win because the other team threw up on themselves? Don't they still lead the majors in opposing teams committing errors against them? I'd also feel better if this rotation has shown me something. It hasn't.

Yes, Joe Kelly has disgusting stuff. I believe the more common term is "filthy", though. Which is why I don't want to run him out of town like they did with Rubby. Keep him in the back of rotation and hope he learns how to control his stuff and develop consistency.
