So this team is awful, huh? They're the Celtics of the MLB.

Seems like they're claiming him to them try and sneak him through waivers themselves, no?

So this team is awful, huh? They're the Celtics of the MLB. The 2015 C's were overachievers, this years Sox are underachievers.

Bowden was saying on XM today Matt Adams probably needs surgery on his quad and could be looking for a lefty bat. Think that could be Nava?

Seems like they're claiming him to them try and sneak him through waivers themselves, no? Yeah, so, apparently not the case. Scott Lauber @scottlauber On Peguero: #RedSox pursued him in winter in hopes plate approach had improved. Intrigued by power. Hopeful he can help overall offense mix

UZR has Peguero as an above-average corner outfielder, while DRS has him as average. ZiPS projects him to hit 86 wRC+ going forward. Quintessential replacement-level player. If he is anything but the 5th outfielder going forward, then this is madness.

I'm most worried about Ortiz, maybe he's playing hurt but he's nearly 40 years old. He's crushed fastballs in his career but this year he's not catching up to them. He's still killing RHP, though. It's hard to understate how much better this ballclub would be vs. LHP with Castillo and Victorino (or Craig and Castillo, or Brentz and Castillo, or Castillo and Holt, or Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck) in the OF corners and Hanley at DH, versus Ortiz at DH and Hanley in LF. Furthermore, if they start doing that ASAP, his vesting option, based on PA, gets severely reduced. Papi has always been able to hit LHP when he was able to bat from somewhat of a crouch, and has never been able to hit them when his knees have forced him to stand more upright. At his age, there's no reason to expect that he'll be able to hit them again. He should be a productive platoon player through 2016, maybe a very productive one, but he's done as an everyday player. And yes, this means pinch-hitting Victorino (or whomever is the RH bench bat) for him in late-inning high-leverage spots when they've brought in a LOOGY to face him. If they start doing that regularly, other teams will sometimes hold the LOOGY off to face Sandoval and take their chances vs. Ortiz with a good RHR.

If he is anything but the 5th outfielder going forward, then this is madness. You can't have two LHB as the OF bench on a team that starts Ortiz and Sandoval. And there's no way he's better than Nava. Basically, they want Bradley and Craig playing every day, and he's a better option than Brentz right now, so he replaces Bianchi as the guy keeping Victorino's spot on the bench warm for a week or so, and then they try to sneak him through waivers.

I posted 3+weeks ago that ERod should be brought up during this 20 game stretch. I ssaid 6 man rotation for a spell...and ppl said I was, dumb. Eat your words sirs I know for a fact this happened. They shouldn't have done this three weeks ago, when Rodriguez had less than 5 AAA starts. Holt leading our team in OPS is unexpected. If you read my post...I said..."called him up for THIS 20 game stretch" meaning the stretch they are currently on. Not three weeks ago call him up....3 weeks ago I said call him up during THIS stretch of games currently.

I would also add that defense in LF improves maybe even more.
