What happened to Nick Shumpert, aka Mookie's cousin? I read reports that he would be selected somewhere in the second round.

My guess is that many of the remaining top HS pitchers stay on the board until Round 11. If they're here now, teams are likely scared off by school commitments/signing demands, and in that sense you don't want to lose slot values in rounds 1-10.

My guess is that Rusconi is the first player picked with an underslot deal. I see Benintendi, Rei and Matheny all going for slot or close to it.

That's enough as we have too many OF'ers in depth by signing, claiming waivers, & drafting. Do we need more OF? Matt Millen lost his job as NFL GM for non-stop of taking WR's when other positions need to be addressed. Let's get LH/RH pitching from HS/college level before any positions to be address. So you're saying because he already had drafted Rogers, Williams and Williams, Millen would've been well advised not to take Calvin Johnson? Megatron is a different story. If I remember correctly, there were other players available at positions they could've used them that they didn't pick. These WR's flopped, for the most part, so it looks worse than it would've had they drafted another position and that player flopped.

I feel like we should take all of the CF's in the draft every year so that no other team can have any. It'll be fun watching the other teams try to put someone else in CF.

PG Scouting Report on Rusconi
193. Jagger Rusconi, 2b, West Ranch HS B-R, 6-0/175, Stevenson Ranch, Calif. College Commitment: Southern California
Southern California was notably short of top middle infield prospects in this class and Rusconi has emerged as the top potential draft. He plays shortstop in high school but projects as a second baseman at the next level. A four-year starter in high school, the switch-hitting Rusconi is a strong offensive player with better lefthanded bat speed and mechanics right now than righthanded. He hit .416-4-13 with 13 stolen bases this year and is close to a .400 hitter in his high school career. Rusconi doesn't have true plus tool but has five projected average tools and an advanced ability to play the game.

Wow I cannot believe the sheer amount of people who simply do not understand how the draft works. The NFL draft, you expect a contributor with picks in rounds 1-4 maybe 5. In the MLB draft, the odds are only above 50% to be useful for maybe the top 10 picks. You don't draft for need ever Yeah, at MOST, you could look at your system and think, "we're thin on high-end arms, so all things being equal, we'll emphasize that." And you can certainly have some relative weighting of grades and philosophies based on studies of who succeeds. But you really can't get into specific positions, and you can't reach too far down your board to do anything. It's all about stocking as much talent as you can in as many ways as you can (IFA, draft, etc). I wouldn't even do that. BPA. If you need a tiebreaker, go with character and amount of money wanted. I don't think you need to develop a balance of pitchers and hitters. You just need to develop a couple players. You should trade most of your prospects in my opinion.

Pat Light moving up to Pawtucket per Alex Speier. Positive development (non-draft related) Making it draft related ... that makes three guys on the Pawtucket roster drafted in that 2012 pool: Marrero, Johnson, Light. All of them seem likely to have at least some major league career and may have long ones. Not a superstar there, but a solid class if Johnson works out. And maybe Buttrey makes it from lower down. Nothing like the 2011 bonanza, but they had fewer picks and less financial flexibility, of course. Going back through the draft history is a good way to put today in the proper perspective ... with no supplemental pick and no second rounder, Benintendi will have a lot to do with the success of this class. Johnson & Pat Light - the two comp picks for Papelbon, iirc?

If nothing else, he has plenty of options for his at-bat music. Anything by The Stones, Moves Like Jagger, Jagger Swagger, etc.
The next Brock Holt?
