Can't complain much about the Ben Taylor pick, saves a good bit of pool money and his K/9 and K/BB stats are pretty good. Interesting that they announced him as a starter.

Also, I'm 90 percent sure Mike Rikard has bought the Spinners.

Red Sox announcing him as a starter seems to align with their philosophy of giving guys who may ultimately end up the pen time as a starter to further develop their stuff.

Red Sox think they can make anybody into a starter. The Sox (rightly IMHO) feel that a guy who goes up the minor league chain as a starter gets a much better preparation for the MLB than a guy who only goes an inning or two in each outing, and can afford to rely on one or two overpowering pitches, especially against inferior competition. Even if they switch him back to relieving in 2017 (hopefully at AA), he will have gained invaluable experience while starting.

I always wonder how this process works. They take Ben Taylor first, who probably would've lasted a while. Why not pick Allen first and Taylor 9th or 10th?

Maybe they wanted to make sure they got their senior (Taylor) figuring he might get taken as a bunch teams are popping those guys now.

I'm kind of surprised how some are reacting negatively because of present needs. it's crazy to believe anyone we draft would be player ready now. Even two years is a reach. What our needs are today with the major-league club are meaningless. Now if you are doing about the farm system's needs I could kind of understand.

I always wonder how this process works. They take Ben Taylor first, who'll probably would've lasted a while. Why not pick Allen first and Taylor 9th or 10th? Say Taylor is getting 10k. Taking him in the 7th you save 205K. Taking him in the 8th you save 165k. Now, with Allen, if they fail to sign him, they lose $175k off of their cap rather than 215k off of their cap.
