When do we let ourselves get excited about Hernandez? When the Sox acquired him, he was considered a good-fielding SS with an intriguing bat, but not a huge upside guy. He's still at SS and seems like he has the glove to stick there in the majors. Not great pop, but he's having success in AA at just 22. I've gotta think he gets on the SP radar in the 25-40 range...he's a better bet at being a long-term major-leaguer, to me, than Brentz. In fact, his numbers are fairly reminiscent of Brock Holt's at a similar age.

BABIP luck driven stat-line would be my initial thought. AVG/OBP have little split and the lack of power makes you think he will probably revert more back to the norm. Seems like a taxi guy as a utility IF.

His BABIP is probably unsustainably high but it may not regress to his earlier levels because there's a chance that his .141 Iso represents real improvement. He's at 16 doubles already and his previous career high was 17 in 2.5x as many plate appearances.
At any rate, getting a useful Double-A player lottery ticket in exchange for a malcontent with a 6.00 ERA like Doubront is a win.
Brock Holt is a weird comparison, though. Holt's batting eye might be his biggest plus (along with his versatility), and Hernandez has a walk rate south of 5%.

Speaking of Doubront, has he been picked up by anyone since he was released by the Cubs? Not a bad arm to stash in Pawtucket either in the bullpen or rotation eventually. I know he left on bad terms, but maybe some time out of the league has humbled him a bit?

.381 BABIP with 19.8% LD% suggests the line is going to come down some - other Sea Dogs look like they average about the standard 10-point jump, eyeballing it. But he's not a JAG either. He's intriguing. Could see him probably getting back into the top 60 next month, although that's always tough to judge pre-draft signings.

Josh Norris @jnorris427 In doing calls for the #RedSox Top 10 prospects, one name has consistently come up as a riser: SS Marco Hernandez, with Double-A Portland.
Josh Norris @jnorris427 Scouts like the improved approach Hernandez has shown at the plate, and praise him for his range, hands and arm at shortstop. #RedSox

Wow, just wow, did not see that coming. Great to know as we gain another trade piece and search for the next Brock Holt-type.

FWIW, I don't take those to mean he's a candidate for the organization top 10. Just that he's a rising prospect.

Seems to be a poor man's Marrero, good to great glove, questionable bat. Has had a similar offensive season so far this year as Marrero had last season in Portland.

I wasn't impressed with his glove at all the few times I've seen him this year. Of course, he was coming off an injury.
17 errors year to date
I was impressed with his hustle and hard-nosed attitude.

Three for five last night on top of a 3 for 5 the night before giving him a nine game hitting streak. Now up to .323, he's sure to advance in the next SP rankings.
Hernandez, Lin and Guerra give a bright outlook at SS at least in the short term.

After watching his video I realize that his bat is much much better than I thought. Really quick and compact, which reminds me of Mookie's swing. Average pull power and some gap power to opposite way. If he improves his approach at the plate he should be an every day player.
