I'm still major pissed that we demoted Brian Johnson to Pawtucket. I know he can't be brought up yet because of the 10-day rule, but what is the front office thinking about. Steven Wright should not be getting that start.....it should be Johnson for the remainder of the season!
Wright could actually be a solid weapon being able to pitch on multiple days out of the pen. IMO he is not one of our 5 starters going forward.

I'm just really excited for another week, at least, of Alejandro De Aza in RF every day. Oh and Napoli at 1B every day.
I wonder what the lineup will look like after the deadline if Ben is unable to move any of Vic, Nap, Nava and De Aza this week? Do JBJ and Rusney still have to stay in AAA? Johnson, Owens?
IMO this team would be FAR more bearable to watch, even as crappy as it is, if those guys were on the field. Get them all some seasoning even if they are failing. The guys who are not going to be here next year are failing anyway.
I have no idea why any team heading to the post season would want any of those guys unless the Sox basically paid the freight and asked for the old bag of balls in return but IMO that would be worth it. Addition by subtraction. Oh and lastly, I have great respect for Nap and Vic and will always remember they were both a big part of the last WS team. Well past time for everyone to move on though.

Starting ext week, with a young OF of Castillo, Betts and Bradley (pleeeeeeeze), the FO should also be weighing the benefits of who will be the 2016 veteran 4th OF, Nava or deAza; and who, with Holt, whether Marrero, Shaw, may fill the other slot. Agree that Johnson should be starting now with Wright establishing himself as the invaluable and invincible long man. Am anxious to see if any of Nap, Vic, Craig, Breslow, Ogando find another home; anf if we finally trade for an above average SP long term.

Right now, the way this team is being managed cannot make sense to the outside rational mind. It has no apparent purpose. I wish they would explain themselves.

Chances are it's out there (may not make sense, but they're not hiding their decision-making from the press). W/r/t Johnson, they said they wanted to keep 8 relievers because the starters hadn't been going deep. Because of the doubleheader, that did kind of make sense.

I am amazed they did not make some major moves once it became apparent that this year's plan was failing - and that was a while ago. Obviously, they may have been trying, but if they had it probably would have leaked.
Some of the things that might have been done: At least one good SP acquired; JBJ playing instead of De Aza; Travis Shaw given a more extended tryout; Johnson given more than one chance in the rotation; better RPs acquired.

First, the Red Sox did not completely fall out of the race until after the week after all-star break when they went O-for-Anaheim and Houston. Second, your wish list reads like the grocery list. "Ben, run out to the trade store and pick up a starting pitcher, a couple of better relievers and, by the way, bench some of your popular, highly paid veterans on your way out to the store!" If it were that easy and there was no cost to doing so, it would have been done. After the trade deadline, I would expect to see more of JBJ and Castillo in the OF, Shaw in the infield and Johnson on the mound.

Well. one thing that needed to get done now has been done.
Surely, you do not think that I am arguing that these things are easy to do. I know they are not. If it were easy to do anyone could do it. Actually my regard for their skills is such that I think they could have done some things if they had been willing to do them.
While the team didn't completely fall out of the race until after the ASB, the team's problems have been obvious since the debacle in May. Some moves a little more significant than sending Masterson and Kelly to Pawtucket really were called for.

Some moves a little more significant than sending Masterson and Kelly to Pawtucket really were called for. There are almost no teams other than the Phillies who would have been willing to sell in May. You're usually stuck with your roster after spring training for several months unless you're willing to severely overpay like the A's did last year.

Momentum is as good as your next day's starting pitcher. Get this guy in the pen. Or, in AAA.

So glad John Farrell pushed Brian Johnson out the door so we could get more Joe Kelly!!!!
Then again, Brian Johnson might actually improve the team and hurt our pick.

Four guys absolutely smoked the ball off of Kelly in the first five batters hahaha the one who didnt got beaned. That trade has gone so remarkably wrong for Cherington. I just want to know what else he could have gotten for Lackey.
