Cherington should have given away De Aza, he also should make it abundantly clear to Farrell that if De Aza is on the team, he should be strictly a bench player. Farrell should not be stupid enough to start him anyways. Frustrating on both accounts. De Aza has played very well for Boston. He is a good, fast outfielder and not a shlump at the plate. As a 4th outfielder for Boston, he has my vote.

No give up on Papi. Some guys would be mailing it in at this point, esp vs. a lefty. I'm too lazy to go through play logs to see what his splits are recently, but he's hitting lefties a lot better now.

But it is good to see Papi running a little harder these last few days. Just wondering why it tok a fan booing to light that fuse — I thought that's what we pay a manager for. Peer pressure would've been good too. Maybe the Next Great Team will have more guys who hustle.

Gotta be the last start for Cy Kelly unless he throws a CG shutout or something, right?

That's the kind of hitting that will land Shaw a major league job somewhere.

Man, Bradley almost knocked that one out. Moore is a very different pitcher after the injury. He's really getting hammered.

So if Kelly does somehow figure it all out now, does Pedro get the credit? link

Have to say that I really like the D with Bradley in center and Castillo in right. As for Kelly, featuring fastballs down the middle isn't going to get the job done.
Add: No doubt that Kelly has the stuff. But he's got to work the edges. That's how he got out of that inning. When he can do that, and stay ahead of batters he's effective. Too often he's searching for any piece of the plate. That just plays into hitters' hands.

Travis Shaw: The internal 3B option we didn't know that we had in the organization.

One terrific turn through the order and now the wheels have come off. Kelly is not exactly doing much to quiet the narrative that he should be in the bullpen.

At least his FIP will look good! I was speaking more about his control than the results. TB has dink-and-dunked him with a bunch of singles - I'm not going to overreact to that. But I thought he generally located well through the first three innings and has been all over the place since.

I've had enough of Butterfield. How the hell do you get a man thrown out at home to end the inning when you would have had Ortiz up with the bases loaded?

That's on JBJ to score there with 2 outs. It was a bang bang play with a great throw.

Well, we somehow got out of the 6th with the lead, but given the horrendous state of the pitching staff, how in the hell are we going to get 9 more outs?

It's almost like playing talented young players every day is good for their development.
Weird.

Making young players earn their playing time is also good for their development.
