Sorry, this is nit-picky, but I think you're throwing around the term "plus-plus" a little too willy-nilly. Margot and Guerra are terrific defenders, but I think it's a stretch to say that they reasonably project to be plus-plus defenders. They're described as "plus range, projects as a well above-average defender" and "potential plus defensive shortstop", respectively, in their SoxProspects profiles, and Kiley McDaniel grades their future field tools as 65s. That's plus to a notch better, but not plus-plus. Not meant to be a knock on either (there are maybe only a couple true 70 defenders at each position at any given time), but I'm sensitive about grade inflation. Do you consider owen's change up to be a plus plus pitch?

Would Margot be enough to get Strasburg and Papelbon?

Reports have the Nats wanting to shake things up in the offseason. They have enough talent on the team to compete so I don't think they trade Strasburg for prospects. Would Buch + a lesser piece for Strasburg and Storen work? They get two years of Buch when Zimmerman and Fister are probably walking and they seem to have grown tired of Strasburg. I don't think they could pay Storen $10+ million to set up either. Talk around Nova and DC is they want to shake up the OF regarding Span, MIGHT buy low short term on Desmond but still would need a bridge to Turner regardless, want some bullpen prospects, and are willing to talk a move including Gio (which doesn't make sense for is or them, Stras, or Jzimm) Also they need a ML second baseman and the general consensus among fans is they're tired of Espinosas 1 or 1 and a half good /quality month and mediocre rest of the year. Also would like to jettison Werth, Matty Williams asap I don't think the Nats are a good fit for us as Strasburgs command is not good, although his potential is high. There are times he looks better than Sherzer and times he looks like a slightly better Joe kelly with more pitches. IMO I don't want any National. Unless it's Bryce (who might not fit in, call it a hunch) or Storen. I'd keep Porcello and look to trade some touchable (to the soxprospects community) IE Margot, Light, HO etc guys maybe Swihart for a young guy

Would Margot be enough to get Strasburg and Papelbon? He should be enough (or close to it) if we take Papelbon and his contract from them, but I don't think he would be in actuality just because Strasburg is so popular.

Strasburg is not as popular as you think. He hasn't quite lived up to expectations and fans give him some heat for that.

The Biggest knock on him in my book is when he is not on, he gets lit up like a pinball machine. I think people get nervous wondering if the next start is the one where he is off, But I wonder if Carl could help elminate those off games, I think he is worth trading for, given the impending free agent status, he should be cheaper than some of the other potential targets.

We eat 7m per year of Porcello's contract. Washington gets him for 4/52. They've had good luck with two former Tigers in Fister and Scherzer. We'll get one good year from Strasburg. He's struggled this year because of a prob with lat injury and recovery. But, no arm problems since TJ Sugery in 2011. Pitched 3 years without missing any starts. Boras is his agent. Can't see Wash keeping him and Harper with so much money allocated to Scherzer. The plus has to be good. Because, even if Strasburg walks. We'd get a comp pick. So would the Nats if they keep him. I'm thinking they would want Margot. If JBJ looks good the next two months maybe him. Less wear and tear on Harper if he plays a corner OF. My hope is that Strasburg thrives in the role of an ace. Likes Boston and talks Boras into getting him a long-term contract with the Sox. Even if he leaves, we save 13m per year. The comp pick makes up for loss of Margot. I think Washington has prob seen a lot of Porcello in the process of scouting Fister and Scherzer. They aren't turned off by his struggles in Boston and see 4/52 as a decent deal for a 3-4. Which is what he really is. Get Margot instead of waiting on a comp pick. Was this the worst-timed post in SoxProspects history? Porcello came off the DL and put up a 3.07 SIERA and 73 xFIP- over 8 starts, including 2 against the Jays and 2 against the Yankees. List of pitchers who had better numbers than that over their full seasons: Kershaw, Sale, Scherzer, Carrasco, Arrieta, Strasburg, Keuchel, Kluber, and Syndergaard. Porcello was a #2 starter when we traded for and signed him, and reverted back to a #2 as soon as he stopped throwing more four-seamers than two-seamers. He'll be a bargain at his current salary. Four years of Porcello at $13M a year plus Margot (or worse, 5 years of Bradley) for one year of Strasburg plus the 30-somethingth pick in the draft would have been one of the worst trades in history.
